I have been asked to do a basketweave 5-tiered square wedding cake; 6" down to 14" on the bottom - stacked construction. No big deal but I have a question for the more experienced -

would you basketweave each layer before stacking or layer and then basketweave? icon_redface.gif

Thanks!

I realize this probably is a silly question, but I really don't have anyone else I can ask........

Anyone?!

I would do each layer and then stack. You can always put on a little border to cover any "stacking mishaps". I would also totally chill the layers so the buttercream is very firm when you stack.

I would basketweave each layer separately - stack on site - and do any repairs and do the bottom borders on site.

basketweave ... then stack ... then I always have a twisted rope border on my basketweaves and I add that after it's all stacked.
