Help! I just baked a white cake with the extender added to two box mixes. I was adding only one recipe of the extender and after about six minutes in the oven realized I never opened my sour cream!!! Does anyone know how it will taste? I hate to waste it if its just a personal preference thing - the cake rose and baked up fine, but I'm worried about the cake's flavor. Should I toss the cake and start over?
it should be fine I dont think that the taste will be too bad. It may not be as moist as if you added the sour cream.
I always taste my cakes after I have leveled them and eat the scraps. I check to see if they are too dry, not enough flavorings, etc. I'm sure it will still taste okay, but check to be safe!
Your cake will taste fine, the sour cream is used to make the cake more moist. I make plenty of cakes with and without sourcream and they both taste great.
