How about a thread to seriously discuss making cupcakes????? - Page 766

fiddlesticks - I just saw your post. I became a big fan of MMF this summer and have used it on several graduation cakes and wedding cakes. But I see that you add tylose. I'm assuming to make decorations stiffer. Can you tell me how much tylose/MMF you've used?

Hello ..Yes love my MMF icon_smile.gif
Sorry to say I have no set amount( yep one of Those people ) icon_smile.gif)
I just kind of shake some tylose on the chunk of MMF I'm using and let it sit for a few minutes and then check to see how it feels to me.
Then I either add more or go with it..You will be able to tell by how stiff it feels to you if it's workable to you or not...Tylose seems to make your piece dry faster also...
You kind of have to go with the amount of MMF your working with as how much tylose to add.....But it really does make a difference...

I had no idea you could use tylose---would I be able to use gum-tex or glucose? I'm having difficulty finding tylose in my area....
thanks!

Thanks, there's a lot of good ideas on here.

Hi all... I tried making some MMF yesterday and adding some gum tex since this is all I could find a local Michael's store--and I cut out some small circles yesterday and left them to dry overnight last night. When I got up today, they were hard, but not hard enough that I couldn't break them. I have worked with the sugar paste/fondant mixture and that combination gets much harder than the gum tex. I will have to make a trip into the city to the cake shop and buy some tylose....thanks!

Oh that Mickey Mouse is really cute...but does look like a bit of work. My minnie mouse cupcakes are due next weekend, November 6th to be exact, so I will load up some pics after that.

I did find the absolute CUTEST pumpkin pie slices on the web made from fondant from our dear friend fiddlesticks!!!! HOW ADORABLE! I just finished up a dozen and hope to get cupcakes made this weekend to bring into work. I cannot believe just how darn cute those little pie slices are. I did make them with the carmels.....loved them! Can't wait to show them off at work. Thank you fiddlesticks for sharing your pumpkin pie slices......you all are so generous!

I have always used 1 tsp. of Tylose to 12 oz. of fondant and it works just perfect for me. One of our instructors gave us that equation many years ago.

There was a little gal that called herself The Frosted Cake & Cookie and she shared her designs for darling little fondant creations for cupcake toppers. She did what she called Tuesdays Toppers ( I think that was it) and each week she shared a darling little piece like the Witch Hat and a tutuorial to go with it. Does anyone know if she is still around??? She was an amazing talent and so kind to share with us.
