Am I being ridiculous.....charging $1.50 for vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream? I'm charging a friend $15 per dozen (she wants 4 doz.) for simple vanilla cupcakes. I do make these from scratch but feel like $15 per doz. is a bit much. Am I being ridiculous and short-changing myself or am I over charging. Really struggling with this!

nope, we have cupcake shops out here charging 2.00-3.00 per cupcake. Even the grocery for a regular cupcake with a swirl is 3.50.

A local grocer in your area charges $3.50 for one cupcake?

I work for a local grocery store and I'm guessing they are probably 4.99 for 6 cupcakes in the bake shop. I'm going to double check on that tomorrow....

would anyone be willing to share how they go about charging for cupcakes? In other words pricing from the most basic being a box mix to homemade cake mix, fillings, decorations, etc?

First of all, figure out what your time is worth from start to finish. Then factor in all the expenses. Don't forget utilities and wear and tear on your appliances, boxes, wrappers, ingredients, etc. Don't cut yourself short!
I am inspired by my Grandma who was the best baker I've known. My wish is to now inspire & create warm memories for my Grandchildren.

Im in the UK in Belfast but I charge £1.70 for a basic swirl plus little sprinkles or glitter in my shop for sit in and takeaway. In the uk you dont have to pay VAT on takeaway sponge so my reckoning is that the VAT i pay on sit in cupcakes basically makes up for the price of a box for the nonvatable takeaway cupcakes.

when buying 6 or more I charge £1.50 each and then for handmade decorations cuppies start at £2.00-£2.50 icon_smile.gif

Does anyone remember the "Cake Central cupcake club"?

We made such great recipes and personally, I had a lot of fun testing all those recipes.

Is it still running but I cant find it? If not, would anyone like to get it up and running again?

I'd very much like to 'play cupcakes' again with everyone here at CC, anyone else up for some fun?
