I was wondering what people used to attach pieces of their fondant figures together. I've just used vanilla but sometimes that doesn't stick well. I was also wondering what are some of everyones favorite tools to use when they're making their fondant figures. Thanks!

I haven't made any figures yet but am excited try in the near future. I believe you use a fondant/water mix or gumpaste/water mix that becomes a glue to help it stick together.

I use either plain water or water with a small amount of gumpaste dissolved in it...it depends on what I am doing. Some of my favorite tools are of course all of our molding tools that we all seem to have but I also use the little measuring cups you use for medicine...they are perfect for mixing colors with alcohol in.
I also noticed that I use a dropper...it is slightly rounded so it give me good smooth areas that my fingers may leave my prints in.
And my exacto knife....I think these are the only ones I use that are not always common for everyone.

When you use Tylose to strengthen your fondant &/0r make your gp save the empty bottle. Fill w/water. Shake *well* and store in frig. Lasts a loooooonnnngggg time Keep an art brush just for brushing it on with.

If in a pinch for tool and you can't find anything I've used a crochet hook, or different markers or pens to shape. Also just bought a small nail manicure set it had some tools that looked like they would work well for detailed work! Thats all for tools other than the regular!

I'm just learning but here is what I have tried that worked so far. I use whole grain spaghetti as "dowels" in my animals and some Fimo clay techniques like making a little hole where the nose goes and then forming the nose with a little tail that sticks into the hole. Tried making my first dollbaby figure this weekend and did not use any sugar glue at all! I have used sugar glue (disolved gumpaste) on some of my animals. Be carefull, to much and your figure gets sticky. I got lots of ideas on how to structure the animals and doll from books on working with Fimo type clays. I used my rolling pin, tooth pick, end of paintbrush, exacto knife and pointed gumpaste tool the most so far! I do have trouble with the exacto knife sticking to the fondant/gumpaste when I make fine cuts like for hair. Maybe one of the incredibly talented and expereinced members that inspire me here at CC can give some advice on this problem.

I use tylose and water and apply it sparingly. Too much and your pieces will slide around and not stick right away.

I use gumpaste dissolved in water, wait a bit for it to settle, then brush it on with a small paintbrush.

I LOVE my exacto knife for sure. I also use sculpting tools and the Wilton set of tools for making flowers, skewers and toothpicks. There are also many books to use for guidance. I use the polymer clay books for inspiration!

I love making figures. Sometimes they are a challenge. Just like kids! Hee, hee...

Aine2 glue: 1/4 teaspoon Tylose & 2 tablespoons of warm water. Leave in fridge overnight. It is perfect.

I use the gumpaste glue mixture and a VERY fine sable brush with which to apply it so that you don't use too much. I also use a mixture of gumpaste and fondant to make figures... dries quicker and stronger. If you are working to keep hands in the air, etc., use bubble wrap or packing foam to prop your pieces until they dry. My favorite tools are traditional clay sculpting tools. I love my clay extruder for hair, etc. Everyday household items such as your sifter become great tools for short hair such as a "crew" cut.

how much do you all charge for your fondant figures??

I love my silver shaker for corn starch this you can use to keep your exacto knife from sticking. I use end of my paint brushes,I save all my koolaid containors for storeing things in and i use cotton balls, and rubber gloves.I belive you can use almost anything.

I started playing around with fondant figures and you can tell i'm a beginner but i have people wanting me to make them all kinds of cakes with little fondant guys.. what do you charge.. heck i don't even know how to charge for cakes..lol.. any help should would be appreciated.. I have on that wants a cake like the one i just did with the frogs but with turtles..lol.. but what do you charge..? if anyone would look at the few i've done and let me know what you would charge or any idea it would be so appreciated.. thank you so much .. sorry jumping in like that.. ..but it was a great question.. thanks in advance

i've started using piping gel to hold my fondant and gumpaste figures and flowers together. it works great and takes hold really fast

Just make sure that you boil that water before you use it. for some reason it can get moldy
