That is SUCH an adorable, frilly cake! LOVE the border - something so simple made into something so precious icon_smile.gif
I love ruffle borders. I especially like color contrasted ruffle borders. And with a ruffle, the more you add the more intricate and beautiful it becomes.

Great thread! I'm always looking for new border ideas. And having very little experience, I'm looking for easy borders. Someone mentioned looking for a more masculine border. I used a plain round tip to do this one for DH's birthday cake. He INSISTS on Duncan Hines canned chocolate frosting, which is VERY soft, so design choices are limited.

Image

I did this cake Sunday with cream cheese frosting, again very soft. I can't do reverse shells, either, so I just did some S-scrolls. I noticed that I when I finished each one, the end stood straight up. I think I could take advantage of this "flaw" and, using some bright colors, come up with a very whimsical border.

Image

Both of these cakes are in the gallery.

Thank you everyone for sharing. Many of these borders (like the frilly border on the poodle cake and the stringwork) are absolutely AMAZING!

Does anybody know where I could find a flame border??? I was thinking of layering my icing in the bag with orange, yellow and red and try to do something that resembles a flame going up the side of a cake? Any suggestions would be great!!! Thanks~Dedra~

Dedra, sorry I don't have any pix to show but stripe your bag w/yellow, orange &/or red icing and use a large leaf tip like maybe #70. Just pull up lines of icing and it will look really good.

Dedra---I stripe my bag like Kakeladi is saying too and it looks really good. But here's another way that I do flames also. All I use is a border tip. HTH K'ly
