the casino here has ordered a sheetcake for their anniversary....they want 5 full sheets put together to make one big one.

anyone ever done this before?

i was thinking i'd ice them all at the shop, and assemble them there ....maybe put 4 together on the bottom, and center the 5th one to stack on top of the bottom 4...with their logo almost covering the top of the top of that full sheet.

they told me pricemart used to do their cakes before, so i guess if pricemart could do it....how hard could it be?

i told them it would be considerably higher priced than their pricemart cake...they didn't care....guess they wanted one that tasted good this time.

anyone do this, i'm just wondering if something is there i'm not thinking of.

oh yeah, it's gonna be all in buttercream, so the seams should go together pretty well.

I would want them to be very cold when I was assembling them... that way you can smooth the butter cream easier without smudging. I would put the dowels in before transport (I personally don't like people watching me do that put). Just remember that you won't be able to put the whole thing on a turn-table - so the borders will take a lot more "leg" work.

I had a friend do a cake like this years ago. She made it simple to transport.

It was for a radio station, who was going to give away cake at the local fire works display. She set up an 8' table. Then she put a 2nd 8' table on top of that one, with legs folded. She placed the sheets on top of the 2nd table and decorated them all on that table. When the radio station came to pick it up (in their company van, of course), all they had to do was pick up the 2nd 8' table with the folded legs and put it in the back of their van.

Oh, and she had a tablecloth already on the table before she put the sheet cakes down.

When the radio station got to the fire works field, they just pulled the table out of the van, unfolded the legs and they were set to go. The table obviously made a very sturdy base for the cake and for transport. My friend never had to move the cakes once they were put in place and when she iced it with the radio station logo, it looked like one big giant cake.

She did a GREAT job!

I just did 2 large cakes like this for a local busines here. 2 double layer sheet cakes on one board with a 1/2 sheet centered on the top. Times 2! Assembled at my shop and transported via my DH and his moving dollies (thank goodness!)

Had to get 2 boards 3/4 MFD that were 27 by 39 inches long. Covered with vinyl tablecloth material at JoAnn's for $7.99 a yard...took 2 yards and stapled to the boards. They looked awesome!!! And Dell loved them. All I can say is good luck, they were heavy to get in my truck and once there they had to be carried a long way (thank goodness for my DH and his 4 wheel dollies)

Hi There,

Not meaning to hi-jack the thread but first great job on getting this opportunity! Have you talked to them about any kind of advertising they might do for you? If not I would talk to them about the possibilities of placing a small sign by the cake with a Note, Cake created by: Your company name. This is a huge advertising opportunity for ya!

Does anyone remember the member who made that GIANT cake for their community banquet? She lives in Canada btw. It was a ton of sheet cakes that she stuck together, iced them all as one and made the prettiest FBCTs (I think) to put along the outside. Then she decorated the top with pictures of all the territories in the area. It the neatest cake Iâve ever seen. She posted pictures of her progress and how long it took her to do it all but Iâm sure weâve lost all that in the crash.
Good luck with your cakes! Youâll do a wonderful job icon_smile.gif
