I keep going back and forth on what I should do for the Moms Club cake I'm making this Thursday (so making it tomorrow, obviously). There are 23 people coming which includes kids. Some kids are too little for cake, but quite a few are 2-5 years old and will enjoy cake.

I want to make this cake and then hopefully drum up some business from it. So, do I go with a plain cake with regular buttercream? Or do I go with a more flavorful cake and a fancier buttercream? I was thinking of making the buttercream that is butter, sugar, whole eggs (cooked) and white chocolate (as the ones in my photos are all regular chocolate and I'm afraid if I remove chocolate from the recipe, the icing will fail).

Do I maybe make the "big" cake in traditional flavor and do a FBCT for the image (as I can do that!) and then maybe make cupcakes that are the fancier buttercream and flavored cake? So, they have two flavors to choose from?

Or do I make two smaller cakes - one traditional, one fancier? Doing it half and half is near impossible, so I'm not going to suggest that... But then that kind of takes away from the "anniversary cake" if there isn't one centerpiece, or does it?

HELP!!!! This is my BIG chance with this group and I want to do my best without going overboard!

Melissa

What is the overall theme, can you do a centerpiece cake with cupcakes around it for the children, then you could do the main cake for the grownups with a touch more flavor and decorations, and the cupcakes plain BC for the kids. It would not take away from the main cake but become part of the design.
