How difficult is is to do a whimsical or madhatter style cake for someone who's just now getting the knack of just stacking cakes??? I've looked over the instructions on the site here, but it just seems so intimidating to me. I've been a nervous nelly with just the plain old stacked cakes that I've done recently.....praying that they didn't start to sink, slide or list off to one side. At least with this style, it's SUPPOSED to be crooked!!! So I might just end up being better at it than a regular stacked...lol. Not sure how I'd do on a whimsical style one....any advice or tips is definitely needed!!

HI jenn i did a whimsical cake for my first cake apart from the normal 8 inch rounds for my family at holidays. I used the instrctions found here on cake central and i must say i think it is the best cake i have ever done. If you look in my photos its the one witht he black and white bottom layer adn the gold roses on it. The beauty about this kind of cake is its supposed to be slanted and off set so if you mess up you can say its part of your plan. lol next time i will add more slant in my cakes but for a first time i think its pretty good.
I really liked your cake. I have been wanting to do a whimsical cake, but there are so many different ways to decorate one....I can't make up my mind.
The cake that had the star gazer lillies...did you make the lillies and if you did..how did you do it?
