Missed most of the posts on page two, so sorry if this has been said, but for anyone who works with electronics (and in today's world, how can you not?) you know how tempramental and frustrating these technologically advanced pieces of equipment can be. I'm sure Jackie and Heath are working on the problem and it's just going to take time to get all the 'bugs' out.

I mean how many times have you had to just unplug your computers and modems just to 'reset' them?! Must take a lot longer with the servers.

Ditto with the hang in there - and Thanks to Heath and Jackie!

I cannot imagine the global effect it would have on CC addicts (let alone the crime rates from crazy CCer's gone mad) if Heath and Jackie decided 'enough is enough' - or sold the site and the membership fees start icon_cry.gif ! By the reactions it causes when the site just has trouble - let alone being shut down - I am amazed every time that they have'nt started the fees, or considered selling. These reactions = BIG $!

Heath and Jackie - A personal heart felt THANK YOU for all of your work (I worked with Citrix for 15+ yrs - I understand the frustrations that can be involved - including trying to answer questions - then trying to explain the answers - and so on - GAWD! just trust me, it's being worked on!!), and a THANK YOU for understanding the definition of 'community' and keeping those fees away! Please don't ever change and keep up the good work! thumbs_up.gif

I've been thru 2 corporate system conversions. Not as an employee, but as a key person on the committee in charge of the conversion. With the best of the best, and doing it full time, with no other distractions, they never run smooth. This is all part of it. It's normal. I even expected it. It's frustration for all of us, but especially to J&H.

So let's not get our knickers in a knot and start speculating on something we know nothing about.

With all the info on here and during the last crash they only lost a few threads ..... that is pretty good, gang!!

$5.00 for the whole year is $0.42 a month !!! icon_confused.gif I don't think that is a lot considering how much fun we get from here , not to mention all the recipes available and the knowledge we get from eachother.

We pay a LOT more than this for a gallon of gas..

Hey Debi... I was the key person on a committe in charge of a conversion once... I was 18 and he was the hottest homosexual man I've ever met! icon_twisted.gif That didn't go smoothly either! icon_rolleyes.gif

About the suggestions for monthly/yearly fees... I know it keeps coming up and that there are great arguments both for and against, but when it boils down to it, it's Jackie and Heath themselves that have insisted this is not a 'pay-community', nor will it be any time soon. Their mission is to make this free to everyone. By accepting donations they are allowing that to happen.

J&H have worked their butts off for us without asking much in return. I know for some people it's hard to understand what's going on because they are not computer savvy. Let me put it this way...

Someone orders a cake from you, you tell them it will take a week. They start calling you fifty times a day to find out how the cake is coming. "Why isn't it done? Are you closing your bakery? I heard that you ruined a wedding cake two weeks ago, you're not going to do that to me are you? Some people say your cakes are dry, I don't want a dry cake. Maybe I shouldn't pay you for this cake!!" Now, would you continue to take calls from this person?

Now I know someone will jump in and say, "Well, I woudln't IGNORE them, I'd at least tell them what's going on." Ok, fine, but if you're up to your elbows in Buttercream and batter soothing a nervous customer may not be your first priority.

I just feel sad when I see people tearing down the site or the wonderful people that brought it to us. They are not unethical criminals, please be kind! We are all going to start looking pretty darn ungrateful if we hound them with insinuations and accusations!!

here! here! enough said.

All the complaining is really driving me crazy!

I do not think that anybody is owed an explanation although I am sure that people would want one out of curiousity. I think that we should just be patient and very thankful that we have cake central to come to. I cannot begin to say how I have been blessed with all of the information that I have received from this website. It is priceless. I would hope that we would just be patient enough to wait while all of the kinks are smoothed out with the website.
Thanks to all who have donated their time and patience to creating and maintaining this website especially the founders- Jackie and Heath. You are greatly appreciated

My heart and prayers go out to J&H, and has been since last week...over the troubles with the servers or/and program.

Due to some hardships, I lost my internet last Dec. and was just able to get it back this March...so the days that I have not been able to get onto CC, has in no way, shape or form.... up-set or even been a pain to me. Why?, because I look at it this way...if I can go from Dec. to March and make it, then a few days sure aren't going to hurt me. I am greatful and happy for the days that I am able to get on CC.

I really missed CC and it's members during that time, because this site and the people on it have in a way been a lifeline for me. I am ever so thankful for this site, the people, the info, tips, recipes, pictures and most of all for J&H...for what they have done and do.

I say be thankful, happy and enjoy what you have or get, when you can have or get it. J&H I have you in my thoughts and prayers, you both are AWESOME!! for things you do and have done.

God Bless,
Sharon

3. There is something causing the servers to crash, and we do not know what exactly.

4. Some people are assuming that it is just the two of us working on this issue, but it is not, we have a number of people from our hosting datacenter working on the problem as well.

5. For those people who are upset that we are not responding to this thread quickly enough, when there are problems keeping the site online, the last thing we are doing with our time is reading the forums, we are monitoring and working on the servers.

6. DO NOT CONTACT OUR SPONSORS seeking additional help. It is not their fault, it is not a financial issue.

7. As a few people mentioned, technical problems sometimes take time to solve. Does a Doctor always get a diagnosis correct the first time? No, sometimes it is a matter of guess and check.

8. A lot of people here are making un-informed guesses as to what our challenges are, what parts of the site are causing the issues, and what needs to be done. Please try to refrain from this type of guessing as it causes the masses to get caught up in the wrong issues, leads to a bunch of unnecessary emails to jackie and I, and just complicates the issue.

9. Jackie and I DO know who to build and run a website, that is our profession, not a hobby. However, the foundation on which cake central was built was never meant to handle this many people, and so we have an issue of having to re-write the core code to be more scalable. This code should be ready in about 60 days, if we can get the servers stable enough to let us focus on that.

10. In summary, As always, this site is free, it will remain free, our problems are not an issue of finance at this moment, we are using all the resources at our disposal to figure out what is crashing the servers.

I think CC has grown too big for it to remain a part time venture and run smoothly. Again.. my thoughts not necessarily fact. I'd be more than happy to donate if I thought it would help. But if money isn't the issue.. I am not going to donate to a site that may or may not be there when I need it. It's been much better in the past 2 days than it has been, but will it last?

I am not being snotty or anything. I think that a simple Hey.. we know the site has been moodier than a woman without chocolate while PMS'ing and we are working on fixing the problem.. would be nice to see.

I will say again that I would gladly pay a yearly fee to fund better programming and overall smooth running of this great site. The format here is great and the people are great too and I really appreciate all of the hard work that goes into running this place. It just plain stinks that this place can't run smoothly.

Well said Jeanne. I think that's all members want, reassurance of some kind from Heath and Jackie. I would not have even posted my original question had I been able to send a PM directly. Whether it closes or not is not up to us, but I know I would like to have an answer one way or the other.

hell, we pay a lot more for this in ingredients! Our hobby/passion/interest/love is not a cheap one by any means when you think of all the ingredients, supplies, tools, gadgets and toys we buy/want/need/covet. CC is yet another one for me (probably THE most valuable!) and I'd gladly pay for it as I would to get more sugar, flour, cake boards and other necessities of the trade.

But I know it will probably not come to that as I know J/H want to keep this site free and available to all, which I respect. I will happily wait it out, they will get there.

As most of you already know... CakeCentral.com has been experiencing non-stop problems since our hardware move last week.
we are very aware of the problems and are working as fast as we can to get this website stable.
Please hang in there!

This whole frustrating past few weeks has not just been 1 problem but a series of problems. We fix 1 thing, and 2 more things break.

We have a team of highly skilled technicians working on the hardware and the software to fix all of the problems permanently.

Cakecentral.com is not going anywhere... however my hair is from pulling it out icon_smile.gif

Please hang in there!
