I just wanted to know how many of you took a decorating class, and how many learned just by practicing. I love to cook and bake and I just want to take it a step further with decorating . I have always been fascinated with cake decorating and I want to start my own own home business someday. I have the confidence that I could learn on my own. I've done a lot of reading up on cake decorating and I have been looking at the step by step instructions, I plan on doing some hands on decorating pretty soon.

Welcome to cc!!! I've learned simply by reading and practicing. This site has a wealth of information and you'll find that just about anything that you can imagine has already been done by one of our members. Everyone here is very helpful and can assist you with just about any problem that you may run into. Just spend a lot of time reading in the forums and invest in a very basic beginning cake decorating book.[/quote]

WELCOME WELCOME!!!!!!!!

You will learn so much here. Just look at the galleries! There are the forums and there is a forum section for practically any question you may have.

There are recipes and articles with tutorials on different techniques! We have numerous professionals here on CC as well as those just starting out with decorating such as yourself that have advanced their techniques greatly.

You will love it here. Some of us learned with classes and others have learned by being on here.

We look forward to your journey through this delicious art form.

Amy

Welcome! Sorry you came on a day that the site is having problems, but we are normally up and running all the time. thumbs_up.gif

I took the Wilton classes, but pretty much a lot of what I do now I learned from books and here and tons of practice! Take a look at the articles section--a wealth of information there and the people here on the boards are fantastic!

Welcome, and I'm glad you hung in there with us through the down time.
I think there are many positive things about this forum but for me it is the diversity. Young, old, basic beginners to professionals. Some of us are self taught, some have taken lots of classes. Where ever you fit in there you will feel comfortable here. There is something for everyone and so much talent. Friendly people with very few disagreements between people. Especially when you consider the size of the membership.

I just love seeing new members. You will love it here, and soon will be addicted as we all are! I personally have taken some classes and most of the people I know agree practising is were you learn how the most. Classes help with technique but practising is were you hone your skills. That's how you find out your strengths and weaknesses (sp) Trial and error can work wonders. But this site is so helpful and the people are so willing to share ideas, tips and fun that you'll find yourself thinking at odd moments"oh, I have to post this on cc!" icon_lol.gif So welcome again.

Welcome to CC! Personally, my decorating skills have improved so much since finding this site. I went from just using BC, to using fondant and gumpaste and making 3D cakes. I am so thankful to everyone here for their wealth of info! Glad to have you on board!
