This is my first post! I just posted a picture of an Elmo cake I made for a party last weekend. Now I have orders for 4 more variations of it. I made it originally for a friend and I have NO idea how to price something like that. Is there a place here I can ask questions like that?

I love this site! It's easy to become an addict!

Thanks!

I would sell a cake like that for $175 covered in buttercream and $250 covered in fondant.

Very good work. HOw long did it take you to make it?

I agree with MyPastryChef. If I were pricing it by the serving (if you need to scale it up or down) I would say $3.50/serving for buttercream and $4.50 for fondant.

Thanks!

I was thinking about $250. The girl it was for spent almost $300 last year on a cake that was 'supposed' to be a palm tree, but everyone thought was a volcano. She told me she would have paid as much for mine. (I only charged her my cost).

The cake probably took me around 12 hours total. That's not counting all the time I used to figure out and test my buttercream etc. because it was my first one.

I'm hoping my time will get better once I start culinary school.
