Please help... I have a client who needs me to bake her stand up Winnie the Pooh cake. I am going to hire the pan (cheaper than buying one). The only thing is, I need to know if I remove the rod (heat conducting rod) should I replace it with a dowel stick or something to help support the cake.
The other thing I need to know is... She wants the Pooh bear cake to sit on top of a two layer cake... do I just prepare the two layer cake as though I was constructing a tiered cake and put the pooh bear on top of the two layer cake (with a cake board in between)???
Please help! Am I going at this the right way???
I have the 3d winnie the pooh pan and I have made it without the heating core and it came out fine. Just cook your cake at a lower temp for a longer time. I didn't dare remove the heating core I thought it would collaps. As for putting it in another cake I would use cardboard under it and dowel it because it is a very heavy cake. I hope this helps.
I made the stand up Winnie the Pooh a couple years ago. I think I left the heating core in -- I too was afraid it would collapse-- so I can't help with the first question.
My Pooh was sitting in a field of flowers (sheet cake), and I put cardboard and dowel rods underneath Pooh.
Good luck!
I've used this pan too, and I baked without the core. Just use a very firm cake recipe. My Pooh was also sitting on another cake, so he had dowels and a cake board under him, then a long dowel pounded down thru his head into the base cake and drum underneath (ouch!). He survived the car trip without so much as a wiggle.
I also made the pooh cake and left the heating core in. It sat on top of 2- 10 or 12" rounds. "I can't remember which pan I used." I just doweled it as if I were making a tiered cake. It's in my pictures if you want to see it. HTH.
