here's two pics for idea:

walls: mottled pink -- rag rolled or sponge painted (could add touches of the maroon and brown to it too.

3-D frames made directly on wall using molding (site showing moldings: http://www.framing4yourself.com/picture-frames/unfinished-moldings.htm ) and painted the deep brown. (these mimic the old style plaster ornamentation on walls that used to look like frame)

inside of frames maroon.

plaster pedestals in front of frames to hold display cakes.

or as in second idea -- large unframed photo of recent cakes in some of the frames.

spot lighting on each frame and pedestal

floor: dark chocolate tile w/ inset pattern in maroon OR chocolate colored carpeting.

furniture: deep browns, chairs w/ maroon cushions, linens pink

aprons: pink w/ brown or maroon trim or reversed: marroon or brown w/ pink trim.

Doug I love it! I may have to remodel my home kitchen to look like that - do you think my husband would mind?

Now can you tell me what to do with my boys' playroom? LOL!

i was thinking the display cakes would all be foam dummies and therefore not need refrigeration.

as for the cold case .... depends upon layout of the shop.

see sketch...

I could see two side wall as described above.

windowed display case along street front w/ more dummy cakes.

tables for eating, browsing, consultation, etc. -- each w/ dummy cake or cookies or petit fours, etc.

your counter along back -- center grey area is two of the cold cases side by side. then open counters to either side. One side counter lifts up for access.

traffic pattern designed to make them view all your display cakes.

extra work counter behind and door to the back room.

this is just a guess based on idea that could work for strictly custom cake shop or for a small bakery.
