I'm looking for some ideas on materials to use for cake boards. I've been using the corrugated cardboard covered with food grade paper but they take away from the presentation of the cake and look home-made. I noticed some decorators on CC are using other materials. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them. Thank you!
oh yes! There are LOTS of things people use!
I for one use foam core boards that you can find at Hobby Lobby or Micheal's. Sometimes these are cheaper to use than the Wilton boards because you can get a few boards in one big one! I also wrap my boards with different color wrapping papers and scrapbook papers and then cover them with clear contact paper(also at the craft stores) This makes for different boards that you wouldn't normally see. To finish off my board I always hot glue a ribbon onto the edges..this makes it so that you don't see the icky sides and sometimes I have to put multiple boards together and this hides it!
I know other people use different things! I am sure they will post what they use!
I use food grade white, gold, silver foils to coer the cake boards.
I buy cake boards in bulk and hot glue two, three, or four boards together. ( This is based on how much support is needed)
Color coordinated ribbon goes around the edge.

Recently I had to do a cake in the form of a ripstik (like a skateboard). I drew the shape on a piece of 1/4" ply and had DH cut it out and sand it down. Then I covered it with paper for the cake to actually sit on. I've also used a piece of marble for the cake board in the past. You can really use anything as long as you make sure that it is clean and ok for food. Good luck and have fun!
Once I used a large gift bag from the dollar store to cover my cake board in a pinch.
ok now...THAT'S crafty!
