I'm going to be visiting San Diego and I was wondering where the best place for specialized cake decorating supplies etc. would be.

TIA

When are you coming? I work only a few blocks from their store.

Sorry to take so long to respond...I'll be there starting April 15. I'm thinking I'll be shopping on the 16th because my sister has to work that day so there'll be no tacky tourist outings.

Isn't it sad that the first thing I think of when visiting a new city is "cake store"!

Depending on where in SD county she is there is also a cake supply store in Temecula called Pila's Pantry.

She's in Jamul...we are flying into LAX so we're driving south!

Depending on which route you take from LA to Jamul which is definitely SD area (La Mesa/National City area) you might pass Pila's on your way.

If you are on 15 South, south of the 91 E then you will go by Pila's in Temecula. Otherwise it is over an hours drive from La Mesa area.

LAX is pretty far West of Temecula. I know The Cake Cottage just opened up in Murrietta too, right next to Temecula.

I'm suppose to have a Bas Relief class at Do It With Icing on the 19th so I might be at the store then.

I suppose it would be rude to leave the family to take a cake class!

We were planning on taking the PCH...I think! Still haven't mapped out our routes.

That's a pretty drive, but realllllly long. I'll also be on the 101 on Saturday delivering gumpaste flowers in Laguna Nigel (before the class). You'll love the drive, it's so relaxing and pretty.

Jamul is really close to Amy's School of Decorating, they have great classes too. But I guess family comes first! icon_smile.gif

Oh, I'll have to find the Cake Cottage - Never heard of it! I'm in Murrieta. You are right, LAX is almost on the coast and Temecula is inland. I wasn't sure which freeways they were driving. The coast will be a very long drive but really pretty, like you said icon_razz.gif

Do It With Icing is definitely the place to go. I like Pila's Pantry in Temecula too, but it's not as big as Do It With Icing.

If you're going to take the 405 South from LAX, you might want to consider stopping at ABC Cakes in Orange County. It's a great shop too - and the biggest one I've been to in the area. Here's their website...

I hope you enjoy your trip!!
