The book "The Cake Mix Doctor" has *lots* of wonderful ideas.
There are many recipes on this site. No doubt Jan will get on here w/all the URLs for you....I don't have them saved. They are posted in other threads - one of which is "Boxed Cake Mixes or not?" in the general forum.

I highly recommend the Delicious Large Quantity Cake listed under the recipes here on CC. It makes a very moist yellow cake. I have never tried adapting it to a white cake to see how it works but would love to know what happens!

I don't do too much with a yellow cake mix except to use the butter-recipe types. For the white mix I like the cake mix doctor's 'Caramel' cake recipe. this past week i tried the 'brides' cake recipe and didn't like it. The cake had good flavor when warm but after refridgerating it to decorate it didn't WOW me. It was also very crumbly and not too moist. I think I'm going back to my old way for white cake which is using only Pillsbury Classic White mix, with 2 egg whites and 1 whole egg, and adding 1 tsp of vanilla per mix.

well depending on which cake mix you are using...will depend on might depend on how you doctor it..... as such Duncan Hines for White Cake Box Mix

1 White Cake Mix
4 Egg Whites
1 Small Box of White Chocolate Pudding (Instant)
1/2 cup of oil
1 cup of Water

Mix all the together.

Place in pan of your choice in a heated of of 350 start check after 30 minutes and continue checking until fully cooked at 5 minute interfuls

You would do the same thing with yellow cake box except use whole eggs and you could use different flavor pudding like banana or Van.
