I am new to all of this and have just been making cakes and cookies for family and friends so far. I found this site via a web search and am loving all of the info, but can anyone clue me into some of the appreviations?
I got RI, but what is NF, NFSC, MMF.....?
Also, does anyone know what "white velvet cutouts" refers to?

One more question.........is all fondant as nasty tasting as Wilton? I love the look of fondant, but the taste of it is nasty.......at least the Wilton's was.
I am getting ready to make jungle animal cookies for my son's 1st birthday party. Anyway, any help anyone can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Heather

There used to be a topic that had all of the abbreviations, but I think it has gone away since the crash. I can tell you that NF is no fail, NFSC is no fail sugar cookie, and MMF is marshmallow fondant. MMF is great and easy to make. If you are looking to buy fondant, Satin Ice is also very good. There is also a rolled buttercream (RBC) that combines the look of fondant and the taste of BC. You can find a lot of different recipes here. Good luck and welcome to CC!

Welcome! I am a newbie as well - I joined about a month ago. I love CC, and I am sure you will too. Everyone is so great and supportive. Just one heads up though...this site is absolutely addictive! I have been eating, sleeping and breathing Cake Central (CC) since I joined...much to my husbands bewilderment!

Anyway, here is a link listing all of the acronyms commonly used in the forums.

If you check out the forum section there is a lot of valuable information in the General section. At the top of each section there are "stickys". These are commonly asked questions that they have flagged for you. I would look at these. Here is a link to a sticky for Newbies on uploading pics.

Finally, all fondant is not created equally. Wilton is horrible tasting, but Satin Ice and Apline are great. You can purchase them at your local cake supply or online. Also, there are quite a few recipes on the site for fondant or Marshmellow fondant (MMF). I have not tried these, but many swear by them.

Hope this helps! Good look and I hope to check out some of your pictures soon.

I can tell you that Wilton is the nastiest fondant on the planet! It's only good for practice or decorations that won't be eaten.

Satin Ice is delicious, and I hear MMF is also.

Happy Baking. You'll get lots of answers to your questions here. People are so very helpful on this board!
