I did a rocketship cake for my (at the time) 3 yr. old. I also didn't have the nerve to upload this picture for all to see. The rocket turned out just fine. It was the hideous passenger that I couldn't stand. It was supposed to be the Jimmy Neutron character from Nickelodeon.

Two days before, things were moving along great, I had experimented over and over making his head with playdoh before I had the guts to go ahead and make the head with fondant. To my amazement, I did a pretty good job. I spent hours on the arms and, being the perfectionist that I am, made sure that you can see every detail in the hands and fingers. The arms were perfectly proportionate . . . what I failed to do, was download pics. of his whole body rather than just his face.

The day of . . . everything was coming together the way they should . . . I put the figure together, assembled him in the cake (in the spaceship) and realized that I had made his arms way too big for his body!!! OMG! Anyone who knows this character knows that Jimmy has gimpy arms! I had totally created a Buff Jimmy Neutron Character on Steroids!! Ah, well - too late now, but my son was able to identify who he was, thanks to the great detail on his face & hair . . . but to top it all off . . . here's the kicker . . . I had three mini ice cream cones at the back of the cake where I had put the sparklers . . . (don't ever try this) . . . the cake LIT ON FIRE!! Well the ice cream cones anyway. Undoubtedly the worst creation ever!

YES chewbaca belongs in the hall of fame I laugh so hard every time I see that cake..brightens my day icon_smile.gif If it counts for anything my 5 year old would be happy with it, goes to show how hard we are to please as we get older, lol...if we could only see everything through the eyes of a 5 year old! he knew who it was when he saw it

Hi again, Chewbaca is so funny, it is so ugly that is cute at the same time, and it has a face only a mother could love icon_biggrin.gif but the happy smile is contagious icon_lol.gif BTW, excuse the ignorance, who or what is a Chewbaca? I have never heard of it. Is it a cartoon or movie character?

Chewbaca is from Star Wars, I think. I'm not a huge fan on that series, but I do know that he is from that! And he talks really loud and funny, too. Like a dog growling.

Is it me, or are most of these cakes not that bad? Especially Abby? You guys are more talented than you are giving yourselves credit for!

I think we've found the love child of Dora and the Russian...

Now here's mine. I was so proud of my first gumpaste flower (why orange? No idea...), but had not yet learned about leveling the cake (or smoothing the frosting)!

My worst cake (so far, anyway!) was a Tonka truck cake for my son's 3rd b-day. It came out more like a jalopy than a dump truck, and I joked with my mom that it looked like it was straight from the set of that old TV show Sanford & Son!

The crowning touch was the black construction paper wheels I used because I didn't think to use cake scraps cut appropriately. The black paper absorbed a lot of the grease from the frosting. Yuck!!!

Ladies, you haven't seen anything until you have seen, scary old lady arm pooh bear.
The first time I was working with rice crispy molding(saw it on youtube and thought hey that looks easy). and I didn't exactly cover the sculpture enough to hide the bumpy texture of the snap crackle and pop. (partially because I ran out of fondant.)
oh and don't forget I had yet to learn how to support my cakes. So I was thinking, "how heavy could this pooh body be" I threw the bad boy on top of my cake and watched in horror, as like the titantic, the honey pot began to sink ruining my up until then rather smooth fondant job. Then poohs eyes begin to melt. I ended up with something that looked like a Macy's day balloon deflating. God horror after horror after horror.

Oh how misery loves company.
We call this cake the ugly cake. This cake made me completely change my policies on using black buttercream! I wish you could see how the swirl designs were supposed to look. I was HYSTERICAL trying to make this cake. It was on of the first we sold from the shop. My mother was there and shoved $60 in my hand as I was leaving so that I could stop by the grocery store to buy more red roses to hide the shame. There ended up being about 3X the amount of roses than the client asked for.

BTW...They LOVED it! I just made their 1 year anniversary cake that matched the second tier.

This is probably my first ever attempt at a "3-d" cake. I made it 8 years ago. It was for my fiance who opened a computer business 2 weeks before his birthday. It used a DH mix, canned icing and those tubes of colored gel. The keys and the hearts on the screen are Valentine SweetTarts. I had never even heard of dowels but somehow I had the monitor standing until my future MIL decided she should try to move it (I don't remember why) and broke it in half. I ended up wrapping the monitor in foil covered cardboard and proped it up as much as I could.

I think I've come a LOOOOONG way since then.

Okay - I've got one. And since I've been doing this a very short time I'm sure I will have more!!!! This is my first ever attempt at making a fondant figure - I'm still not sure what to do about the face!!! I also tried to do topsy turvy, but in the middle of it realized I skipped some crucial steps!!

Found 2 more that were made about 6 years ago. Lizzie Maguire was for my daughter and for my son - Nemo (who, if you look closely you will see, is missing his lucky fin!) These were before I even had cake tools. I decorated them with an antique icing gun which held approximately 3 tablespoons of icing at a time. And, of course, gel colors - 'cause what's more appetizing on a cake than black, runny ooze, right?

yeah, that computer one while not excellent in technique it does have a great idea and an excellent use of materials. I like it just because its unique.
I live in Japan, so unless I order it 45 days ahead of time what I can get here is what I get to use, so this cake to me is a great show of use what you got! I love the keyboard.

I'm totally cool with you laughing....my husband did, too! Said they looked like those scary kids from movies like The Ring.

My son is awesome, though. He's only five - he said they were beautiful. What he doesn't know icon_smile.gif makes me feel better!!!!

Plus, I think my baby and my leprechaun turned out WAY better. Now if I can only figure out how to do the face of a NON sleeping figure!!!!
