You can go in - just have to pay the admittance fee to the County Fair. The competition last year was done on a week night, in front of the judges (2 hours for assembling and doing finishing touches on the cakes). The cakes were then put in display cases for the rest of the fair.
I'm not doing either of these competitions this year- too busy with other things. I wished I had done the orchid one this year as this was a "huge" orchid show this year, supposedly.
zenu,
You will be added to the Florida Chapter and they/we are currently working on planning the ICES Convention that is going to be at Disney in July (*we're very busy*). There is a quarterly newsletter that the FL Chapter puts out.
I would check out this site for events, happenings and meetings of other cake clubs.

Sorry you missed the last DOS.
HTH
Thanks rozdei and joshalow.
Maybe I can attend the next dos- if it's not too far.
Is there any way we can get people like Nicholas Lodge or Toba Garrett to do classes somewhere in South Florida? I get really envious when I see all these events going on everywhere but here.
joshalow: isn't it nerve-wracking to decorate in front of the judges? Who are these judges anyways?
Thanks again!
Nic Lodge is doing a demo at the ICES Convention at Disney in July.
There is going to be a ton of demos and classes packed into a few days. Our fellow CCer, JenniferMI is doing a demo too. I'm sure there are other CC'ers doing demos and I know a bunch of CC'ers are attending.
I don't really know who the judges were- just that at least two of them were either chefs or something like that.
Nic Lodge did come down to Broward Co. last year for two days. Check his website every once in a while to see if he's coming down again.
I am doing one of the demos at the ICES convention- enchanting mini cakes for little princesses.
Hey everyone,
I am also in miami and I'm looking for more things to do "cake". Could someone send me the link to sign up for ICES?
Beautiful cake, by the way! You must be very proud! You're very talented!
Thank you so much!

jen2184,
We had a Day of Sharing (DOS) last weekend in West Palm Beach County and there were Miami area folks there.
I think they are starting or there is a Miami area cake club. If someone knows of this, please post for jen2184.
And I'm not sure if these other cake clubs are near you but you can see a listing at:
