I have an idea for a babyshower cake but I'm not sure how to construct it. I thought I saw a pic on here (somewhere) of a really cool tree cake. What I want to do is make a 3-D tree base and limbs with a bassinette sitting on top of it. I'm just not sure how to do it. I can envision it in my mind just not sure how to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

My first thought was to stack several 4 or 6" round cakes on top of each other to build the tree trunk. Freeze them and then do a little carving to give the tree some shape. I'd stick a dowel all the way down the center to keep the cakes from shifting and use cake circles between each layer to make serving easier. If you use a dense cake and it isn't too tall, you could probably get by without needing too much support for the upper layers.
You could use pretzel rods for tree branches. Maybe wrap two rods together with fondant to make bigger branches, and use some rods individually. Just a jumping off point. icon_smile.gif

i've seen something like this in a wilton yr book. i think they used the center stacked set (pillar throughthe middle)with oe cake as the groud(base cake) and another cake on top decorated witha leaf tip to form the tree leaves and limbs. the center pillar is decorated with chocolate bc and a star tip to look like the trunk of the tree. i think they put a tree house on
top of theirs but i'm sure you could put a cradle cake on yours. i realy liked the idea when i seen it in the yr book. ad i'm sure yours will be great!! please post pics of it when your done.. hope this helps icon_biggrin.gif

I remember the wilton one. They had it on their website too. I'm almost certain it was an Easter cake if that helps you find it.
