So I'm really new to this cake decoration thing. A person I know ordered a birthday cake for her daughter (I'm posting the pictures sometime this week) so i made a practice cake because I've never made a red velvet cake before. Well, the practice cake was AMAZING... i tasted soooo good. When I went to make the new cake, it came out just fine, but in the cream cheese icing recipie, it calls for a cup of melted marshmellows, a stick of butter, a pack of cream cheese, and a pound of powdered sugar. Well, i needed 2 batches of frosting for the cake and then i frosted it. When I was making the frosting to decorate the cake, it was a little runny, so I added powdered sugar to thicken it. I looked at the recipie and I had forgotten to put it in the 1st 2 batches...
I have to give the coustmer the cake tomorrow and I don't have time to rebake it... Should i give it to her for free? It tastes fine, its just not as sweet as it would be...
Honestly I think if you think it still tastes good then I wouldn't say a word, if you feel it isn't quite as good then maybe cut a little deal but I still wouldn't say anything. That is my 2 cents.
So did you ice the cake and then decide you need more so made another batch? If so they most likely won't notice it since there is sugar in the 2nd batch.
If you think it tastes fine then I wouldn't say a word. Should they say anything after eating it then give the refund.
Most people think the icing is way to sweet anyway so you may have found a great way to cut out some of the sweetness anyway
okay, so i decided (because she gives my family discounts on our vet bills) that I would charge her $10 for the cake...
She took one look at it and said
"NO! I'm going to give you $30!"
So I called her this afternoon and she said that the cake was a hit! She loved it and she will be ordering more from me!
I guess my little mistake was a good thing!!!
Yay!
Now you will just have to remember what you did when you made that cake so that when she orders another one you can give her the same thing.
