I tried doing a search but didn't really find what I was looking for.

A local bakery is advertising for a person to work with them and they want a resume. What do you put on a resume for this type of job?

Right now I just decorate for friends and family so how do I show them I can do the job or at least be worth looking at?

Thanks for any help or advice!

I think that it might be a good idea to bring your portfolio with you when you drop off your resume. Also just list the skills that you have and if you took classes some where.

I would put all the classes and everything you have done. Take some pics of your cakes and if you have some time maybe do up some flowers or something to take pics of so that they know that you can make the flowers that you need to be able to make. And maybe get some letters from some of the people that you have done cakes for saying that they loved your cakes and would buy from you again.

i've worked at several different bakeries...it's always the same...

they gave me a 1/4....and told me to go decorate it.

then you decorate it and bring it back...

they see how neat you did, and how fast you were.

decorators are so few and far between these days, it's pretty easy to get a job....if it was me, i'd just "happen by" one day and talk to the bakery manager...i bet they'd let you do a cake on the spot.

they EXPECT the decorator to work every weekend....we had some "divas" come by some of the bakeries i've worked with their portfolio and they'd tell what hours they were "available"....like they thought since they were so "awesome" that they'd take any time they could get em. NOPE...everybody every weekend.

what was sooooo funny sometimes you'd get these people in.....bragging about all the wedding cakes they had done etc etc etc.....never knowing the next step was to make a cake....you shoulda seen some of the cakes they made...HA HA HA...one didn't even know how to hold the bag.

by the time she got done icing it there were so many crumbs in it....it looked like a cookies and cream cake.

ha ha...

good luck....just go make em a cake...you'll do great.
