Do you charge for the top tier of a anniversary cake?

Just wondering what you all do. I know it's pretty standard not to charge for the top of a wedding cake, but what about an anniversary cake that is done wedding style? I need some imput here!

I charge for it all, even on wedding cakes! I figure, if I'm makin' it, they're payin' for it! (of course, I typically undercharge anyway thumbsdown.gif )

What!? not pay for the top tier of a wedding cake?

If it is a part of the cake and it's decorated, then the client pays for it...

I charge for everything too. Don't cheat yourself! Make sure that what you make is what you charge for.

I would charge for it definately. You need to be paid for your time and effort.

Do not sell yourself short. It's not included in the servings because the bride and groom typically take that home and save it for the first anniversary, but it's definitely included in the price!!!

Hello All,
I charge for everything too! I have read somewhere that you don't charge for the top tier, butttt I doooo.. I think it was on the pricing matrix,where I saw that.. but I feel like its part of the cake. and it is usually figured into the price but not into the number of servings on a wedding cake, but on an anniversary cake I think you would figure it into the servings, unless they plan on keeping it.

You know.. it just dawned on me.. I have never included the top tier in the pricing of a wedding cake. I just charge "per person".. hmmmm guess I will have to rethink things here.

I think I read that somewhere too, a long time ago. . .
But I disregarded it, figuring whoever wrote it was smoking crack!

Seriously though, it depends how you market yourself. . . you can say it's free and then charge more per portion to compensate. For some reason, people fall for the "free" with purchase marketing techniques. Go figure!

I guess in a way I do not charge for it on a wedding cake but I really do. I do not figure it in the servings BUT when I set my prices I figured it into the cost of the cake Looks free but it is not.

Plus I do alot of gumpaste and when I do the cake top I charge extra for it it is not included in the cost per serving

On an anniversery cake I figure it in the servings unless the couple plan on taking it home and eating it after the guests go home That makes a special treat for the couple.

I think I read something before that they offer the one year anniv. cake for free so that they don't have to eat the year old cake, but I also think that they said they figure it into the cost. (it looks free to client but it is already figured in) Hope that makes sense and is some help!!
