How Do You Decorate With Royal Icing?

I am going to try the antonia 74 recipe and NFSC and was wondering what the typical way to decoate the cookie is? Do you put the icing in a bag and does it flood out? I have never decorated cookies before and am enjoying everyones posts. Thanks
