My Cake Sta'ted To Melt

I made this really pretty cake it was three tier cake that I was using push in pillars well it look really nice the colors it was sponge bob and when I took it it was really nice everybody just loved it but it was really hot and worst she put it were the sun was shinng on it and was whipped cream the frosting was melting and the colors started to run it was really sad because I was at the party and seeing all your hard work and its was melting but everybody like it it tasted good next time I make sure she sit the cake some where else? does any one know how long does a cake that frosted with whipped cream last in the sun I know buttercream would be better but all my clints dont like the buttercream? someone ask me if the frosting was buttercream because it was sweet she said maybe because its started to melt?

I'm not sure but I'd think around 80 degrees or so any icing would begin to break down ... icing just doesn't tolerate high temperatures icon_sad.gif

Gloria,
The heat did you in. As Cheryl mentioned, heat will break down the icing and the colors, butter cream would not have done well either.

I do whipped cream cakes all the time. My hard and fast rule is that the cake should be refrigerated until no more than 1/2 hour before serving. Especially on a hot day!!! AND NEVER SIT IT IN THE SUN! It just melts too darn fast
