I have only been doing cakes for friends but I myself am getting bored of the same flavor icing! I was wondering what do you all use to flavor your icing??

I just made my birthday cake. I did chocolate cake with buttercream but used almond in it.

I have mixed raspberry preserves in it before to use it as filling and a raspberry flavoring to ice with before.

The buttercream icing I make I have flavored with sugarfree/fat free instant pudding (reduce the powdered sugar to accomodate the pudding). Will share the recipe if you like. Leslie

I use vanilla extract and butter flavoring mostly. Everyone seems to enjoy it equally well. Peppermint buttercream is good filling for a devil's food cake iced with chocolate ganache. It's like a york peppermint patty in cake form! Yum!

You're probably tired of Vanilla Extract; try some of the other extracts or grate some zest to give it more zest. thumbs_up.gif

I've used lots of flavoring in my frosting. I usually use vanilla and almond, but have also used peppermint, mint, banana, and strawberry extracts in place of the almond.

Yes, just replace the vanilla for another flavor. My favorite is Almond flavored buttercream on chocolate cake with raspberry filling, it is so yummy!

I use a butter vanilla (like butavan flavoring) and have used creme bouquet. I've also use the Lorann oils to flavor my icing, they have everything you can think of. I also know some people who use the flavored coffe milks for the liquid in their icing.

flavor oils - you'll always have a ton of flavors available - just a few drops in a batch of icing and you are set.

I use butter/vanilla, almond, lemon, orange, creme bouquet. I use some of Lorann Oils as well. Just be careful of those oils as some of them are colored and can tint your icing. It doesn't take but a drop or two of the oils so thecolor shouldn't be too obvious! Definately grate some zest along with the citrus flavoring. You can use pineapple juice as well!
