I received the Wilton Candy Melting Bowls for Xmas and was really surprised at how small they are. You can only melt up to four candy melts at a time. The kit also comes with brushes. What I'm wondering is, Is this something I will ever use? Does anyone out there use them? Could you give me some ideas on what to use them for? Thank you.

the melting bowls are to melt the colored discs to paint details in the molds.

Hi - yes you will use them IF you make chocolates at all. they are used to melt small amounts of colored chocolate to use as details on your molds. For instance, if I was using a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer mold, I'd "paint" his nose red, let it set, and then fill it in with milk or white chocolate. Hope that makes sense, I tried to explain the best I could!

I have these things.
They are like ceramic or something. I use them all of the time. I do not use the brushes they came with. I use different ones.
I do put more than 4 melts in at a time. I use them when I am doing details in my candy molds.
They keep the melts warm for a while.
When I just used the color palate thing, I had to keep putting it back in the microwave to warm, but with these cups, It keeps it warm for a longer time.

if you use the palate thing...you can put a pot holder on a candle warmer you get at Michael's for 5.00 and the candy melts will stay melted.

If you aren't making chocolate molds, but just once in awhile melting chocolates to cover leaves or dipping something in, then the are a waste. A double boiler works better and keeps them hot. If I'm doing small amounts, I just use my ceramic ramekins/custard bowls and set them over boiling water in a coffee cup.

You know what works for me for large amounts of chocolates? I went to the Thrif shop and got a couple of SLOW COOKERS with a "HOLD" setting for like 5 bucks!

I put my chocolates in. ...stir while I melt them..then put on HOLD while I do my molds....

Each Crock Pot holds over 5 pounds of chocolate at the right temp! and for details I have the little bottles with the tips that I keep on a pot holder on top of a candle warmer..

It helps me fly by my mold making ...
