I am going to be making a cake for someone in our office that is moving to Florida. Obviously the theme would be the ocean!!!! I have seen lots of pictures here with water but not totally sure how ya'll are doing that. I am assuming you would use tinted piping gel and just layer it on top of buttercream????? Would you need to tint the buttercream underneath as well as the gel?
Any help ya'll can give would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!
Hi there, I do use the tinted piping gel, But I do not tint underneath, However I only have used "water" on white or a light blue cake.
Ocean huh? I want to go too...!!!
the ones i have done i colored the buttercream blue and then coated with tinted piping gel!
you could do it either way......if you're wanting to make water in the center of a cake a cool way to do it is to cut out a portion of the cake in the shape you're wanting the body of water to be and then frost the inside of the "hole" and then pour in blue jello.......pop it in the fridge and allow it to set up and voila......water! If you're planning on water on the cake board just around the cake........piping gel all the way.....if you tint the icing blue under it......it gives the appearance of deeper water.....white bc underneath looks more shallow.....depends on what look you're after.....good luck!
Thanks ya'll !!! I thought that was the way to do it but I just wanted confirmation!!
I could sure use a trip to the ocean after Christmas!!! UGH!!!
