I can't seem to figure out what went wrong with these cakes! I do think it mught have something to do with my stove being brand new and these were the first two victims of it! What do you all think? On the boobie cake I had to turn down the heat to 325 bc the inside wasn't cooked but the sides were just starting to brown! As for the square cake don't know why it didn't raise the way it was suppose too. Any ideas? I also had to share the pics of my old stove and my new stove!

You need a thermometer in your oven and test the heat before you bake another cake otherwise you may drive yourself nuts!

I know cuz my oven is actually off 75 degrees and nothing ever got done and it drove me nuts

Edited to add: BTW you new oven is sweet.

HMMMM, I know my mil had to play with her oven temp to get it right. Have you placed a temp gauge inside the new oven to check? Just a thought - nice new stove btw!

They do not look that bad. My cake tops are always about that color or lighter. The sidea are never the same color.

Both cakes can be used. No problem. Get a thermometer for the oven. Mine is about 50 degrees off. Since it is a shiny, brand new stove, the manufacturer should adjust the thermostat free of charge. (The problem with this is the length of time the repair man has to hang around, to properly adjust the stove. I had mine adjusted and they didn't want to hang around and do it right, it's better but still off the 50 degrees, it was much worse.)

Ok thanks because I was going to feed the cakes to the squirrels!! I think my hubby should be able to adjust the thermo for me. He does work on heavy machinery, so it can't be any harder than that! Well I should mention it took him two days to put the new stove in!

Oh poor squirls. They almost had a yummy treat! icon_lol.gif

I too think you can still use the cakes though. Just cut off the bottom and you should be good to go.

I always bake cakes at 325. They seem to cook more evenly that way.

Silvercat- the infra-red thermometer you are talking about is not capable of measuring accurately the temp. of your oven. Those measure SURFACE temp, like "how hot is this doorknob" and not AIR temp, like "how hot is my oven". You might get a good read on the temp. of your oven wall, but not the temp. of the air inside the oven. You need to get an oven thermometer for that.

Congratulations on the new stove!

Yeah my hubby did the infer red temp and than also had a electric probe and it is off by 50 degrees! So for the time being we just cook at 300! We just need to recalabrate the oven! Oh those cakes did go to the squirrels bc I also screwed up the recipe! They tasted horrible! I made the cake again tonight and it was cooling than cracked in so many places it wasn't useable! So this time around I used my cookie sheet adn will cut the cake in the am and ice it that way! I am hoping to get the same effect! Thanks I think once I get the new oven figured out I will love it!

As well as your oven temp. being off it could also be your cake pans. I swear by Magic Line and would not even begin to bake with the silicone stuff. I've heard nothing good about it. Did you use your pans successfully in your old oven?? Good Luck! Gorgeous stove! Lucky you!

Is that a Bosch oven? If it is...that's your problem. Sorry icon_cry.gif

(I had a Bosch this summer. For a month. Until the knobs came off, the convection fan stopped working, and it started leaking gas INTERNALLY. Yikes. Bad, bad oven.)

Yes it is a Bosch stove! Was there a recall on them for the gas leaking internally?

I don't know if there was an official "recall" or I just got a lemon. I smelled gas, called the gas company, and the meter went wild when placed inside the oven. Given the other problems with the knobs and the convection fan, I told Lowe's to come take it back. They didn't want to, but they did.

Were you running the convection fan when cooking the cakes? Convection fans aren't really good for cakes...try it again on normal bake mode and see if it helps.

I don't want to burst your "new oven" bubble! I was so happy when my Bosch arrived I took a picture of it! It was such a disappointment...I hope yours turns out to be much, much better!

Actually no I wasn't running the fan with either of those cakes. I did make chicken the other night with the convection baking mode and it came out great! I was telling hubby that the next cake I will try it on convection bake mode. Well when we bought this stove, it was on close out bc it was discontinued missing two knobs. But well called bosch adn they sent us new knobs. We have the safety covers over the knobs bc of the kids, my son tries to turn them on but hasn't so I put the covers over them the other night! Thanks for the insight!
