Hi an_g3la,

I love both of them. The CX4800 has the card slot for your memory cards for cameras thumbs_up.gif .

tiggy,

I think she is talking about purchasing the refillable inks...cheaper that way.

tiggy - you can purchase a refillable ink set at both kopykakes and icing images. I know you can refill for the 4, 6, and 8 cartridge sets - i didn't realize you could also do the bulk refill for the 2 cartridge sets.

I can't help you on the price per page yet . . . i haven't printed enough yet to have any sense of it, and I'm not sure if i should count the "test" pages either. I've only used one frosting sheet so far!

i saw an auction on ebay for the refill inks it was $350 but im not sure how much ink it is...it is auctioned as a business...

crimsicle...how do you refill the 2 cartridge ink? (dumb question hehe) just wondering what color is used for the "colored" inks icon_biggrin.gif

I believe all the different icing sheets are basically the same thing, just different brands. Give Debbie a call at icing images - i ended up calling her to ask a question about my cartridges, and she was really helpful. I'm sure there are only a few manufacturers out there, and they all order and repackage from the same suppliers.

Good luck!

Does Icing Images carry cartridges for the epson as well as the canon? All I saw listed on their web site was canon. Has anyone refilled their cartridges and is it easy to do? TIA

They decided last year not to carry/sell Epson printers because of the clogging problems. I can't remember if they have Epson cartridges available, though. You can use their icing image sheets, but the inks are NOT interchangeable. Because the new canon printers are not compatible with their current cartridges, they are re-evaluating what to do, and are deciding whether to begin carrying Epsons later this year. They are also looking into whether the new Canons will be able to be made into edible image printers or not, so I think they are waiting to see about what to do as they move forward. I don't know if that is much help or not. The staff there was really helpful, so if you have questions, call and ask them! They will tell you if their refill inks can be used with the Epsons or not - they are quite honest, and won't give you a wrong answer just to make a sale. Debbie even directed my husband to a cheaper location to buy a less expensive Canon printer instead of from her.

what a great bf! congratulations! I don't have a picture, but I can try and take one and upload it later tonight for you. If you imagine an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with a coated surface, the "icing sheet" sort of sits about 1/8 inch in from the edges all the way around. You print on it, and then you just sort of bend back the real paper and peel off the icing sheet. How exciting!

thanks tkeys hmmm i got a sheet made and she bought it from kopykakes...it was a sheet on top of a photo paper like sheet? and it was not smooth...it has like little circles just like a golf ball? hehe (im bad at describing things) i'll take picture of my sheets also...it was great working with it so im wondering if it's the same thing icing images is selling

ohhh btw tkeys...did your printer came with a usb cable? my bf said it does not come with it but im thinking any usb cable might work icon_biggrin.gif

The printer did not come with a USB cable, but we already had an extra one and just used that. USB cables are standard - you can buy any one (or use one that you already have from another printer).

The printer sheet I had was smooth on top - no golf ball type impressions at all.

ohhh was it easy to handle? and did it easily "blend" with the icing? i will probably use it with fondant...wondering if i can just apply water to make it stick on the fondant

i'll wait for the printer and try the cable that my camera came in with icon_biggrin.gif

can't wait to print my sheets

thanks tkeys

I don't know if your camera USB cable will be the same - that might be designed to hook up to your camera, not a printer - you'll need a printer USB cable (one that is designed to hook into a printer). USB cables have 2 ends - one with a standard USB end, and one with a printer cable end. The camera USB cables usually have a much smaller attachment for the camera end. You can usually buy the printer cables pretty cheap at Costco, and you can get them at target, too. They are a bit more expensive at staples and best buy, but watch for sales. Do you already have a regular printer at home with a USB cable? You can pull the cable out of that one and use it - it will be exactly the same.

The printer sheet was really easy to use - I thought I would have trouble pulling the icing back off of the paper, but it came right off - the backing was like photo paper. It did melt in pretty easily, but I actually was trying to keep it from melting in too well this time (since I wanted the images to look like photos resting on the cake). I was afraid that if it completely melted in it would lose the photograph effect, so I let the buttercream crust and then put the icing sheet on, and I didn't use any water at all. Even like that, it actually did dissolve pretty well into the icing, although not 100%. The icing sheet was soft, but with just a touch of definition around the edges. The areas where it was a bit more damp (and now the following day) the sheet has completely dissolved in. I had some leftover scraps and I tested wetting it a bit and putting it on the buttercream, and it melted right in. I don't think you need much water for that at all - perhaps a bit more on the fondant, because you don't have the wetness of the buttercream icing to really draw from. I'd probably take one of those spray bottles and just lightly mist the fondant first.

Give kopykake another try and ask to speak with Lisa...she is really nice and knowledgeable thumbs_up.gif

I haven't done this yet...just buying the ink to be ready to do it. It appears you would refill them just as you would any cartridge. The color part is three separate chambers...they're just stuck together so you handle them as one when popping them in and out of the printer.

Very nice thread here, this is Trish's hubby and I now have a clue to which printer i'll be shopping for(Canon). She is starting out and there might be some down time between prints so there will be a better chance of clogging from lack of use.

Here's a link to a thread I did awhile back on free software for edible images if anyone is interested in downloading it. I think it's easier to navigate then KopyKakes software. http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=549100#549100 Have fun with your new printers!

shipping to CA from kopykake was the same as anywhere...it's UPS, I just got my stuff sooner.

an_g3la, I got some icing sheets from icingmagic...I liked them better than kopykake's, actually (smoother), and they have free shipping (and no tax!)...

www.icingmagic.com

Epson ink is only at kopykake, though...but since you are doing canon, you have a lot of options...

im sorry for that sunlover but as tkeys said...you can unclog them...if i may ask...how long did it take before it got clogged? were all your printers canon?

Any new tips for unclogging? The last time, I took the head out, soaked it in water on a paper towel, also soaked it in windex, also ran it under warm water for 1/2 hr and none of these things worked. I have not tried to fix this one yet.

It is my fault for not printing something on it every week...I did for a while but I simply forget to do it every week to keep it unclogged. It is such a popular thing around graduation time, but the most of the rest of the time it just sits there!

Someone out there asked about price per sheet....I charged $5 per sheet. I would allow 1/2 sheet, but if they wanted something smaller, I still charged the same amount. Good luck everyone....they really are cool, just keep on top of printing with it often or you'll clog up. thumbs_up.gif
