I was using the Wilton standup lamb pan to make my unicorn cake. Well, the cake looked good when I took it out of the pan...even had no problems when I stood it up, but while I was decorating it, the head fell off . I was using the "durable 3d and wedding cake" recipe from this site. I have used it before with no problems, so I am not exactly sure what went wrong this time. Oh well, my two year old son and my one year old daughter enjoyed eating it (forgot to add my 30 year old husband ). Since I was very short on time, I got a pound cake mix and it worked well. Anyone else have this problem using the stand up lamb pan or was it just one of those things that happens sometimes?
I've had the same problem with the lamb pan. It didn't happen all the time, just some of the time. It's just one of those things I guess.
Could you use a dowel maybe going diagonal through the head into the cake to prevent this?
Not that it's funny but I had to laugh because I just came to this forum to post about my "decapitated" lamb cake and here is your post basically saying the same thing.
I made that darn lamb and his stupid head started to crack so of course I try to fix it but noooooooooooooooo......"" it keeps getting worse. Then I had to take it off the larger round cake it was sitting on because it was leaning so badly that it was about to tip over completely. Which of course made the crack worse. Finally, after moving it back and forth THREE times to try to level it, I gave up and DECAPITATED the stupid thing! Had to start over completely at 11pm. I was not a happy camper but in the end it came out fine. UGH!!
