I have only made decorated cookies in royal icing once and really enjoyed doing it. I want to do it again but was wondering if it would work to add flavoring to the royal icing? I was exactly thrilled about how the icing tasted. Although it did not tast bad, I would like to improve the flavor if possible. I used a simple recipe of water powedered sugar and meringue powder.

Yes, you can add flavor to royal icing. I generally add vanilla, especially if the icing doesn't need to be white-white.
