Hey guys! I know I have talked a lot about being in a border rut. Anybody interested in starting a thread with your favorite borders? I feel like I do the same ones over and over. Maybe we could post pics of our favorite ones from the galleries, and post the info of the tip that was used if possible.

I'll post one of my favorites here. It's not my cake, but Thanh Thanh's and I love her work. I have tried to make this border, but mine never comes out like this.

The reverse shell border is also one of my favorites (that you have shown in Thang Thanh's photo)

I use the some motions and use a rose petal tip sometimes.. like in this photo

99% of my cakes are wedding, so dragging pearl. Nothing else, ever.

Thanks so much for starting this thread. I've only done the shell border. Talk about a rut! I've admired the reverse shell and would like to try it. I can't wait to see what others have to offer. I get so overwhelmed sometimes with all the techniques that I just don't know where to start.

I just really love the reverse shell...especially when the bag is stripped with an additional color. Makes a beautiful border. I have to agree with Leah and the dragging pearl for wedding cakes.

The reverse shell in the thanh thanh pic is so perfect and gorgeous! Why does mine never come out that way? That is my favorite border since the shell gets so boring after a while.

Sometimes I do rosettes, but that uses alot of icing...the other one I really like is the rope border, but it doesn't 'go' with everything, ya know?

I love the reverse shells..but working with weddings all i work with is pearls!..

reverse is usually the only one i do.. with all the other techniques to learn, who has time to practise other borders.. ugh... my reverse is different every time.. so they look different.. depending on what tip i use and depends how long i make each one...

But if I don't have time for elaborate lambeth borders, dragged pearl is my fave. Or rope-shells.

Shell and dragging pearl here too. Leily, I like the reverse shell variation you use with the petal tip.

This is one of my favorites but I save it for little girls or maybe big girls too because it seems feminine to me.

Though I don't agree with the first sentence it was the only thing I could find that described the Snail's Trail piping design, which I believe is the same as the Dragging Pearl design, though I could be mistaken. I couldn't find a picture, but I'm sure there are tons of them in the gallery. I just don't have the time to look there right now.

I too would love to see apicture of the dragging pearl or dragging smail border.

I think I like the name dragging pearls rather than snail trail. Imagine telling brides your going to use a snail trail border!?!

This is a border I like to use a lot for girly cakes. It is made with a 104 and it is kind of a reverse shell because you tilt the tip back and forth. I then go over the top of it with a #2 and jiggle it as I go. It takes on a whole different look when done in different colors. You can use pastel for the ruffle and white for the top lacy part.

I would love to see a picture. Never heard of it before.
