For my church's Fall Festival this year, I did a Live Demo of a 3-D "Grinch Head" using a styro wig form to build the sculpture off of. I built up the cheeks and mouth area with pre-made "crispy rice" treats. All went well for the demo as I showed visitors how the facial features were shaped in icing, then covered with fondant, detailed with more icing, etc. Because I used styro , I failed to use any "extra support" to hold the "rice treats" in place. The cake held up wonderfully at my vendor's booth, but after the short ride back home the "Law of Gravity" served me papers. I'm pretty much a "self taught" sculptor & still have alot to learn about how to "build a better Grinch". I hate to load up cakes with dowels, pipes, wire & other non-edible objects, so I tend to forgo placing "supports' inside of my cakes. I guess all I need to do is remember this cake's "Grinchy Grin" next time I find myself thinking, "that should hold up OK for travel"...

Yeah, I suppose he deserved it, he IS the grinch after all. He and "exploding head elmo" probably have a lot to chat about! At least he survived the demo, hooray!
