Has anyone used the stand up mini bear pan to make a winnie the pooh? Need tips and hints here!!!

Next question for those that use marshmallow fondant.....

Do you just add frosting color to it like regular icing to make it the color that you want?

Can't help with the first question but the second one, yes, you colour it the same way you would regular fondant or icing. You may have to add more icing sugar to make up for the extra moisture the colour gives it. Also, generally you knead the colour in so you may want to do this in a bag or with gloves on.

I have used the stand up bear pan. I baked it then sliced it almost down the middle to lay it down on a sheet cake for a baby shower. It turned out pretty good. What is your question and I'll try and answer. I have pics.

I wanted to stand the mini bear pan up on the cake (like on top of the baby block), just needed to know if I had to make any adjustments or not to the structure of the cake itself. But, I wanted to decorate it like Winnie the Pooh......not just a teddy bear.

Can I see a picture of what you did?

If you are worried about tip over if you are placing it on top of a cake, you could do 2 things: 1) Slice a little bit of the bottom off of the bear to make the bottom more flat; or 2) Insert a wooden dowel rod (cut to desired length into the cake and then slide the bear over the top of the dowel rod (decorate as desired)

I am worried about making it look like winnie the pooh, because the mini bear pan just looks like a teddy bear......

Yes, I can see that you would be a little worried. I haven't done this, but I have done something similar with another pan. Once you have your Winnie colours, your best bet is to have either a little Winnie handy or a good picture of Winnie and try to duplicate the features. IF you have a picture of the large Winnie the Pooh Cake, make a decreased size photocopy of it and try to duplicate. I find that his snout area is quite different from the teddy bear pan. It may be a bit more complex to do because the mini is so small. Do you have a small Winnie?

I posted a pic of the bear cake I did in the baby shower section of the gallery. You can use keyword teddy bear to get to it. The bear I made wasn't very small, as you can see. If I were placing the whole bear on another cake with more than one layer I would use a few dowel rods for support under the bear. I cut a cake board around my bear cake(but just a little smaller so it wouldn't show) and decorated it on that because it made it easy to transfer to the sheet cake. Of course I finished it out around the edges after I'd transfered it. Also you can remove it easily to save or cut with less mess on the base cake. I used the grass tip for my fur but you could put the Winnie colors on with a spatula (pallet style) or use the star tip is you wanted. I'll be interested to see what you come up with LeanLioness. I ended up not making that cake for the baby shower, but just did a sheet cake and made a fondant baby gown with an edible image of winnie the pooh on it and some baby booties.

I am going to play around with the mini bear pan and see what I can come up with as far as making him look like winnie the pooh.....

I saw the picture that you posted of the cake. Very cute! I love the booties! And what a way to incorporate simplicity of the outfits with the winnie the pooh image!
