I'm currently making a cake for tomorrow- been working on some of the design aspects of it...but I'm needing "layout" ideas. Cake will be a sheet cake 11"x15" and has a theme of "Charlie Brown & the great pumkin"...so
I'm making royal icing plaques of snoopy, charlie brown, lucy, sally and linus (and b/c they're royal icing...I don't plan on making any more characters).

So my "great pumpkin" is actually going to be another mini cake -shaped like a bundt cake and decorated to look like a pumpkin...

Here's where I need help... where should I place said "pumkin"?

Also b/c the royal icing characters are so thin, I thought about backing them up onto a sugar cookie...but I'm concerned about the cookie falling over (I want the cookies to be standing up so it looks like they're walking up to the pumpkin) so should I make "lollipop cookies" if so do I have to have a special mold?

Thanks for any and all help - wasn't sure if I should put this in the "how do I" section or not...

Hi there,
I am no expert by any stretch, but I would place the pumpkin off center toward the back of the cake, and stand the characters in a semi-circle in front of the pumpkin, kind of like they were about to dance around it. Also, as far as standing the characters up goes, you could use a popsicle stick on the back and R.I. to cover the stick and make it solid.
Good luck!
Lookind forward to the photos.

For me the pumpkin in one of the upper corners then you can have the characters spread out and everyone can see.

For the royal icing characters do yo have any candy stick/cookie sticks. You can attach then with royal icing to back of the sticks. and they can stand up.

Good luck on your cake and I am sure more ideas will be posted to help you.

Just my advice....make extra RI characters. I made 2 of each character on my Barney cake (in my gallery) and I'm so glad I did because I broke a couple of them trying to place them on the cake! Maybe I didn't make them thick enough, but the little girl's name was RI too and I made it pretty thick and it cracked also.

I did not use lolipop sticks and I should have. I had to prop the characters up against the 2nd tier so they would stand. If you want your carachters to stand up you should definately use some type of support on them.

The royal icing characters are very thin...luckily any "boo-boos" have been hidden w/ more royal icing...but I just didn't want to take any chances...thus the reason why I'm thinking of sugar cookies, and then place a smack of royal icing on the cookies, and gingerly placing the characters onto the cookies.

My snoopy character is going right next to the pumpkin...he's so cute, I'm making it to where it looks like he's licking the pumkin icon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif
