Hello fellow cc'ers

I'm trying to bake a cake in India for the first time. I'm using a buttercream recipe that needs vegetable shortening but i cant find it here. I've been told that margerine is the same thing but I didnt think it was. Do you guys know?
I could just use all butter but its very hot here and I'm scared the buttercream will melt (I wont be able to refrigerate it for most of the evening!!)
Does anyone mind sharing a hardy alternative icing recipe. just a plain one.

I have made an all butter buttercream, If you are concerned it will melt add more powdered sugar. I don't use margarine just real butter. Do you have access to cream cheese you could use that also.
Have you just moved to India? I checked out your gallery and you said this was the first cake in India, but you have obviously done cakes somewhere else. Hope you can find what you need.

No, margarine is not the same thing as shortening - I would use an all butter buttercream recipe - here's one I can give you

1/2 cup butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
3-4 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

Cream butter. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to butter, mix thoroughly.
*May add more/less milk depending on desire of frosting consistency...as
written, the frosting will be a stiff consistency.

thanks guys. i have made cakes before jibbies but im visiting india for a friends wedding and thought it would be fun to make him a cake for the after party =)
