In My opinion, this is a good example os lots of talent, lots of money, and very bad taste.
Lennette, if you can only give cute opinions, and have to keep quiet when you don't like something, what is our opinions worth anyway?

Let's not too serious here, folks! There was a link in an earlier post by jsmith to the scupltor's webpage who made the bust out of CLAY!!!! She makes clay sculpture cake toppers. This one was a whopping $2500.00!

HERE IT IS:

http://www.etsy.com/view_listi.....id=7503677

That is why I made light of it in my earlier post.
The bust was not cake, people. However, it was a ton of cake!

OMG Canoewoman I was thinking this privately and you SAID it. I agree! LOL!! I *bet* some of those wedding guests were thinking privately, the same thing we are saying here: "boy! thats amazing but gosh! Isnt that bride a little bit TOO into herself???!" icon_cry.gif

Wow, it's amazing how fast this email has gotten around!! I've gotten email about this cake about 6 times in the past 2 days!!

All I could say when I got the email was:

1. WOW!! icon_eek.gif
2. Dude, whoever did this cake is the BOMB!!! (bows down to the cake decorator) thumbs_up.gif
3. I could never do this cake. icon_sad.gif
4. The bottom part of the cake was BEAUTIFUL!!
5. Wonder how much that cost?? Couldn't be less than $5000

and last but not least....

6. Dude; that top part is scary!! I wonder why the bride wanted that?? icon_confused.gif Oh well, to each his own!!

I have to admit I get the same squeemish feeling when I see a cake in the shape of a baby with little toes, etc. It's just for a fleeting second I guess it strikes many of us as unusual; and in this case, perhaps a bit self-centered of the bride. Not that I'm saying anything bad about it. It is truly a work of art. I think many of us are just having a natural human reaction and have that first initial reaction for a fleeting second. Then we go on to appreciate it for the artistry.

Thank goodness! The clay sculpture and the cake are both beautiful work - a definite artist made them. My first thought when I saw the photo though was what did the couple save for their 1st anniversary...the head? Could you imagine going into the freezer a year later and bringing it out to serve?? icon_eek.gif

I don't know....it's awfully tacky if you ask me. Whoever made it is very talented, but to order a cake of YOURSELF??? That just lacks taste.

Maybe it was a joke. I would order something like that as a joke because my DH and I don't take things so seriously. and I am not conceited at all. Its a wedding, shouldn't it have some fun. That was probably one heck of a conversation piece.

I knew as soon as I saw it that at least the top part wasn't cake (plus I looked at other cakes by the decorator)
Still, pretty cool, unique idea!

I had to look again. OMFG.

That is just about the tackiest thing I have ever seen. What kind of ego does that bride have, anyway? Sheesh.

Disclaimer: I can absolutely appreciate the hard work and talant that went into planning and executing a cake like this, but that does absolutely not make it less tacky.

Nothing in this thread is tackier than you saying "OMFG."

I think it's pretty different but sort of cool. My compliments to the decorator!!

As we are always saying here, the cake is the centerpiece of the reception. Well here's one they'll be talking about for a while. If this reflects the bride then I'd bet no one there was surprised when they saw it. Shocked momentarily yes, but shocked? I wonder how many it was to feed. I'd cut into it in a heart beat, it's just cake. And that's a lot of cake to have to cut and plate. I hope it was something real yummy because people will be standing in line for a piece of this cake!

You said that you look at other cakes by the decorator, is she a part of the forum, if so, who is she, and I would love to look at her other cakes. Thanks in advance.

Hmmmmm.....I just took a peek at that website. I don't know if she's our member, but I recognized one of the cakes on there that was definitely from CC.

I pm'd the member to take a look...

Uh oh.....I just found another CC photo from a different member on that site.....

I guess we'll soon find out if she has permission.

I'm editing to say that I have found yet a third cake from yet another member....I have pm'd all three cc members. The cakes were.....the popcorn mini cakes, the "spa" cake with the girl with the cucumbers on her eyes, and the frankenstein cake.
If you see anymore, pm the CC member....I have to get the kids to school!!!

In the original pics, was that the decorator standing next to the cake? If so, they look like two different people.

That page isn't so much of a "website" promoting the cake decorator... it's an online photo album. She may use it to store photos(not necessarily just her own). I was trying to find an actual website for her, but I'm not sure if I found it. I did find a site that has a LOT of pictures of CC cakes. I've pm'ed one of the members to verify if it is their site before I jump to any conclusions and make an ass of myself. icon_smile.gif

Yes it is funny how things get around. If one more person sends me those pictures saying "can you do that", I am going to scream. No I can't do that! And though it is very original and the person who did it must be super talented, I think it's kinda' spooky!

WOW!!!!! It's no doubt amazing, but I hope for the bride's sake it's a fake cake! Can you imagine, 300 people cutting into you and serving you up with a glass of milk on your wedding day? icon_smile.gif
Kind of a creepy concept...

Wow icon_eek.gif when I first saw the cake, I really thought that that was the bride standing behind the cake! Then I realize that it was a cake!! Beautiful, but weird! Very creative though. And please, lanette, nobody was being rude and disrespectfull. Please can anybody post their opinions without somebody getting upset about it? I have noticed more of this happening, lately. I hate writing on message boards when I has to step on egg shells because I am afraid of offending somebody.
