Pillow Cake Using Buttercream Instead Of Fondant?
Decorating By moptop Updated 24 Oct 2007 , 7:04pm by cambo
whatcha think?
can a pillow cake (like the beautiful purple one in the how-to section) turn out as well in buttercream as it does of fondant? Is it possible to get buttercream to look that nice and smooth on that shape of cake. I LOVE the look of the fondant but am not a fan of the taste.
any thoughts/suggestions are welcome! thanks as always.
That is very cute! I am doing one like this very soon and I was wondering the same thing.
THANK YOU!
Wow Cambo, you cake looks really lovely.
moptop - Once you've carved the cake and iced in buttercream, I would use the roller method to smooth the cake. You will definately get a nice fondant like finish. For the tassles, you could used the grass tip or even use a tea strainer to get the look.
Thank you! I used the VIVA paper towel method to smooth the cakes and make the "indentions" around the buttons, which are also buttercream. The tassles on the corners are done in buttercream with the grass tip (#233).
