Ok my fellow CC'ers, I made this pretty cool cake, it is an 8inch, 3 layer cake (2 yellow and middle German Chocolate) and on top is a "Brain", and I got it covered with a light pink to match the color of the brain with rolled curly looking fondant letters wrapped around the cake, and it also has black spider rings crawling all over it. Here is my problem, I do not have a container big enough to cover it so it will not dry out, my husband says, nah dont worry about it, where I am like where do I put it??? I do not want it to be dry, my gf is icking it up tomorrow, it is a cake for her husband's birthday, any thoughts out there? I have pics of it, but I cannot get the pics downloaded, it is driving me nuts!!!! Anyway, let me know what you think as soon as you can. Thanks so much, you all are the best. Sincerely, Veronica

Veronica,
Once the cake is iced, it seals in all of the moisture. As long as you don't have anything in the filling that needs to be refrigerated, the cake can sit out at room temperature for several days and still be perfectly moist. If it is a scratch made cake, it will tend to dry out a little quicker, but if she's picking it up tomorrow it will be just fine.

Sounds like a great cake!!

there shouldn't be a problem leaving it out overnight, but if you are very concerned could you sit it in the fridge?

It should be fine over night but if you're worried go to a grocery store, major drug store chain or maybe you have one in your house - pick up one of those tubs. Handy for delivering cakes too. If the top isn't air tight, put Saran Wrap on top. Or how about a stock pot? If you're going to carry it in the tub or pot, put the rubber shelving foam underneath. I think I'm going to be afraid to look at your cake! AHHHHH!!!! Good luck!

I leave cakes sitting out overnight fully decorated all of the time. It absolutely will not dry out. I get tons of compliments on how moist my cakes are. (I use duncan hines if that makes a difference). Is the cake going to be served tomorrow or will she need to store it somewhere for another day?

For cakes that are too tall for my boxes I would put it in the regular square cake box. Then I pull the top down as far as I can with out it touching the cake. I cut slits in the sides of the box to let the sides of the top go down in so it will not fall any farther down. Then I cover the opened part with plastic wrap so nothing can get to it. Sorry if it is not very clear. Let me know if I can help any more!! Hope it helps ya.

The Domino Sugar boxes at Sams are perfect, I use them all the time for taller or 3D cakes.
