sparklers on a cake

Greetings! icon_biggrin.gif

I, for some unknown reason, had a question about sparklers. I've seen on tv that some people use them on cakes. Is that ok to do? I thought they gave off metal shavings. Or is that just a tv thing? Has anybody tried it?

I've used candles that are made to behave as a sparkler. Maybe this is what you are seeing. I would never put a fireworks sparkler on my cake.

YUCK!!! NO way!!!! Especially since they sell candles that do the same thing. The candles are several inches long. In fact, with the exception of wax, it looks just like a sparkler. And they are not expensive.

There's no need to be dangerous.

Are those firework sparklers even legal anymore? I don't think they are here in the NJ/NY area. (These days, most everything here is illegal...sigh...a sad sign of the times).

We can still get sparklers in Kentucky.

Our cake supply store has the sparklers made just for cakes. They act just like the regular sparklers, but are suppossedly food safe. Even have them shaped like numbers.
