This is kind of long, so I'll appologise in advance ...
I have been baking and decorating cakes for family and friends for a couple of year now. Everyone has been telling me that I should start my own business. So, I finally took the plunge and started to look into it seriously.
I spoke to the health inspector today and my only optiona are to build a separate kitchen (no money for that) or work out of a licensed kitchen. I live in a really small town, that only has 2 licensed kitchens, neither of which would be that easy to rent. Even if I work in a licensed kitchen I have to register with the health inspector, anyone been through that?
So, I was wondering if there are any other options? I know some people run unofficial businesses out of their homes. How does that work? Any other suggestions? I'll appreciate any help or suggestions.
THanks!
I thought of that. I asked about using the community center or church kitchen, but from taking to the health inspector, it looks like it would be hard to get a kitchen licensed. I know that neither of those places are completely set up to meet the requirements.
Just a friendly warning! Murphy's Law! Don't try to run a business without doing it legally! If you can't run one out of your home, listen to the inspector. If you truly are meant to do this, something positive will come through for you! If you do this within your home, against the laws in your city or state, you will be caught, and your dreams may go up in smoke! I would hate to see that happen to anyone! Good luck, and hang in there!
