Well, I finally delivered my first wedding cake baby. The bride called three weeks ago to see if I could do her cake because her first lady told her she couldn't do it. All she wanted was to serve 300 people all white cake with part of it to be a three tier with ribbons around the bottom and a few flowers in Autumn colors and silver pearls. I wanted plenty of time to work on it so I immediately stated making RI flowers. I was to have 4 two layer tiered 11x15 sheet cakes and a 10",8", 6" tiers and I added a 4" tier for her "C" topper and for an anniversary cake. I waffled between is it enough cake-is it too much cake so I just left it at that. I have been working all week on the cakes with a few handleable problems and mistakes. I threw in flavored fillings, strawberry, chocolate, carmel and vanilla bean. I learned a lot and I think it turned out OK and the bride was very thrilled and pleased. WHEW!!! I really want comments but be kind. You know how it is with your first. icon_surprised.gif

The cake is beautiful great job on the flowers. The only possible thing I would have changed is the color of the cake drum. I think gold would have made the colors in the flowers pop more.

I'm a little confused....sorry... but were the sheet cakes served with the cake at cake cutting time (like behind the food counter?), or were they displayed too? I take it that was to make sure there was enough cake? Sorry for all the questions, I'm about to do my first wedding cake too, and I think you did a wonderful job!

Thank you all for your positive comments! I really appreciate the all pats on the back.
Grandpam, I couldn't agree more. The flash on the camera did wash out the colors some. That wasn't white, but an opalescent plastic tablecloth that I covered my board with. It had colors flashing throughout and I thought it would look good with the silver of the topper. The cake hasn't been served yet, the wedding is today. I'll have to get back with Kelly in a few weeks when she has come back to earth.
Christy, I think the sheet cakes will be displayed on a different table. I did a flat arrangement of the same flowers on those and did the colors of ribbons on those. They were decorating for the reception when I delivered it. It was beautiful with arrangements of autumn flowers and leaves on all the tables and even leaf shaped candles on the head table.
