A friend of mine asked me to make a cake for her niece's birthday decorated with white buttercream icing and strawberries. I figured that would be easy enough and less bags to clean with fruit as the decorations. I made it last night and I was really proud of it (unfortunately I didn't take a picture). This morning I got up and opened the frig to get it out and the bottom of the box was SOAKED. All the juices from the strawberries had dripped down the cake. Then I opened it and the red "Happy Birthday Toya" on the top of the cake had bled all into the white icing. It looked like tie-dye. I didn't have time to fix it so I just had to put it in a new box with wax paper on the bottom and give it to her. I aplogized and she told me that she still thought the niece would love it but I feel so bad. She insisted I keep the check but I'm still sick about it so I'm going to tear it up. I should have asked y'all before making a cake with fruit on top. Y'ALL WOULD HAVE WARNED ME!

So sorry that happened. I learn everything the hard way too. I'm sure it tasted wonderfully though.

I too learned the hard way. Buttercream and fresh fruit just dont mix well.. lol I had the insides of a bottom layer of a wedding cake slide out during transport . I was able to fix it and no one but my helper and I knew what a disaster it really was. NEVER AGAIN !!
