Ok, I have a bride who wants a cupcake tree for her reception. She's thinking her guest list will be about 300. Fortunately for me, she realizes that she doesn't actually need to have 300 cupcakes! I seem to remember in another thread someone, possibly indydebi, giving a rule of thumb for how many servings of cake to provide in relation to how many invites go out. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it! She's thinking 150-200 cupcakes but wants my help in deciding. TIA!!

indydebi's rule is 60% of the expected guest list - so 60% of 300 would be 180.

I believe her rule is, and correct me if I'm wrong, 60% of the INVITES SENT not 60% of how many you expect to show. To the OP, she can either use the 60% rule or go through and make a good guess and to who will really show and who won't. You definitely want to have at least one for everybody that wants one.

Correct. So if she INVITED 300 people, then she should expect about 180 to actually show up. If she INVITED 500, then she should expect about 300 to actually show up.

I have never done a cupcake wedding, so I would throw this question out to those who have: Do people tend to take more cake if it's cupcakes as opposed to a slice of cake on a plate with a fork? I'm thinking that since cupcakes are more mobile, some folks may have one at the reception and then might take one home "for later"?

I can adjust the size of the wedding cakes to fit the number of guests who are there. For cupcakes, I'd probably make the bride tell me exactly how many cupcakes she wants me to bring since I can't adjust the serving size after the fact.

Thanks for all the input ladies! Sorry about the duplicate thread, I hit the stop button because I wanted to add something, didn't realize it already loaded. icon_redface.gif Anyway, I think I'll give her the 60% rule and the other advise and let her dicide. You guys are great! icon_smile.gif
