Am I crazy or just insane??
I think you're a little of both. 
I'm not nearly so busy, I don't have any real orders just cakes for a few places my husband wants to give something to (and school), cookie bouquets for the teachers, some plain cookies for my husband, decorated cookies for home and an additional 5 dozen decorated for the class program.
And I've been told that Santa is probably sick of cookies so we should bake brownies to put out for him. 
I got a few orders however they are all being picked up by the 22nd. after that I just have the few thing I will be doing for the family.
You're not crazy have fun doing it & when it's all done after the holidays just make sure you really treat yourself! A bottle of bubbly in a nice warm bath far far away 
No not crazy just busy. Makes the rest of us jealous. I thought I had been busy with a wedding cake and sheet cake last week and 3 sheet cakes and a wedding cake this week! You put me to shame. Of course I am only doing this part time and was up to 1:OO am this morning putting the finishing touches on the wedding cake I have to deliver this afternoon. I took my last half day of vacation so I could deliver and set up. I pray that God grants you stamina.
This is just a hobby type of thing for me too. But now it is starting to look like a business. I have never did a wedding cake and not sure if I would that would make me very nervious. I've been asked a few times but turned it down because I just started playing around a year ago and I'm still not sure about myself.
I also forgot to mention the chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, oatmeal cookies, sugar cookies,35 mouse cookies, fudge, 30 cakeballs, 18 cupcakes, 7 loafs of cinnamon bread and 8 loafs of cranberry bread I just made on wednesday for gift baskets for friends and family.
Way to go! Today is my last day at work until Jan 8th. I started bringing in orders yesterday. I have a list of 3 layer cakes,4 pound cakes, 1 mardi gras birthday 1/2 sheet, 20 orders of cakeballs, and 2 sweet potato cheesecakes. I have been up the last two night getting my orders for work ready. I will be fine now that I'm off work, the rest of my orders should be a breeze. The rest of the orders will be picked up.
Yeah, I did it to myself, too. Last week I did a cake and 4 full sized cookie/candy/treat trays for the cabin amenities business. I SWORE at that time that I never wanted to see another cake ball or cookie!
THIS WEEK: I'm pre-baking and prepping for next weeks orders:
SUNDAY: Nativity themed cake for a Catholic church.
MONDAY: 3 9 inch cheesecakes: carrot cake, white chocolate raspberry, New York style. 
TUESDAY: 4 cookie trays due, 4 3 D cakes: snowman, gift, Christmas tree and yule log.
WEDNESDAY: GAH! I'm off today. Just imagine last minute shopping and MORE prep work!
THURSDAY: 2 MORE 3D cakes: Tree and gift
FRIDAY: Coconut cake (not decorated--Thank goodness for small mercies) and 2 more cheesecakes. Who cares what flavor? By this time I'll be so far gone, I won't care either. 
So yeah. You're not entirely alone. Every time I do this, I ask myself, "OK. Like why did I do this again? Don't I remember LAST time I did this how I felt?" 
And the answer, you might ask?? 
CAKE RUSH!! Y'all know the one--It's that feeling you get when you've done something no one else could do, and you've done it really well. The little "yeehaw" you get in your belly when they see the cake for the first time and their eyes pop out. And then there's always the best part: The part where you go to the bank and trade in all your checks for a nice lil' pile of cash and head out to the shoppin' places!

tyty, Wow! Did you say 20 ORDERS!!! of cakeballs. Holy cow I hope smoeone is going to help you roll all of them. I think my arms would fall off. When you go to sleep your going to be counting balls instead of sheep.

I rolled about 200 Sunday and I will do the rest this Sunday. I stand up and mix and sit down and roll. LOL
Just one question ladies... to all of you who have all this orders, do you also have another job or you are only in the cake business? Just wondering as I can't imagine going to work and to top it off have to bake all those goodies.... if you do have a job, how do you do it? Not that the cake busines is not a "job" but I mean a 9-5 office job or similar. Just curious ...

I work an 8 hr job everyday. My children are grown and only one is still home. DH does not like the time I spend on cakes, but he works a lot of eve. So I get home from work and I can bake and decorate all by myself. My son works and goes to school.
On the nights when DH is home he gets in my way and slows me down. I love it on the weekend to take an early bedtime and get up at midnight and bake and decorate. Wednesday night I got home at 5 and baked 2 10 inch layers and 2 8 inch layers and a castle poundcake. I also dipped 5 dozen cake balls (they were in the freezer already rolled. I baked 1 2 dozen cookies, also batter from freezer. I try to make the best use of my time. I got to bed that night about 11:30 which is normal for me even if I had no cakes to bake. I'm only this busy over the holiday season and the other busy times are Mother's day and July 4th.

Forgot to add that everything is baked from scratch. I didin't have to ice the layers until Thursday night.
My husband and I are both police. Him--26 years. Me--18 years. Full time. I have an 18 year old and 13 year old. The 18 year old has moved out. Still have the 13 year old at home--but he's up for bid currently! (Not really. It's a thought, though.)
I've been on vacation since early this month. I don't go back until January 8th. Son goes back to school Jan. 9th. DH goes off on vacation (for his full 12 weeks a year) for the last time the week of Christmas.
So--all of that being said, I stay busy. When I'm swinging shifts (like say 2nd shift) most of my CC time online is done in car. When I get home, I'll have leftovers from the (frozen on weekends pre-cooked) meals I've had DH or DS throw in the oven. Laundry, cleaning, family time and socializing (yes--I do have a friend or two other than my FAB 5 here at CC!) are done while cakes are in the oven, or after delivery. I am lucky with that--my DS at home does quite a bit for me. As did the older DS while he was at home. The Old Man spends most of his time hunting or shooting when he's off and has time.
The biggest part of my cake biz is from one business in the Smokies. So--instead of running around to deliver, or waiting on separate orders to be picked up, I may give like 6 orders at a time to one person.
My days and nights are full. And I am grateful for this---I could be sick like I was for 10 years! 
Every day that brings something to bake or prepare for someone is a treasure to me.
As many of you know who scan the "lounge" area, I'm really tired and beat at the end of most days. Part of the territory I reckon.

Hey Knox, WOOOOW, how cool, you are a cop! Judging by your avatar I figured you had something to do with law enforcement! And that's awesome... that both you and your DH are cops! Thanks for keeping America safe! And I'm really impressed with you ladies!! OK, you have inspired me, my only son is ready to start Kindergarten next year so I will be going back to work and I always had that doubt in the back of my head thinking if I was going to be able to manage my job and my cake addiction... so a BIG THANK YOU! I will have to learn to manage my time, job, family, cakes, social life.... if you ladies can I might be able too!!

Your cakes are really beautiful, they look like magazine pics. I only do those detailed cakes on the weekend, unless I only have that 1 cake to do. There is no way I could decorate 2-3 cakes when I get home from work . The 9 in was iced only and the 8 inch was a b-day cake with a simple boarder and name.

I do think that even if the cake does not have that much detail still is a lot of work, when you think about it, the baking from scratch, the making of the icing, bags, couplers, cleaning up and so on... (loooong list) it is time consuming, so really, it is amazing to me how you ladies manage your time! I have to learn to do that, so I can everything in my life... family time, a job and my cakes! Thanks again!
I didn't take on a lot of orders this year, but the ones I had were all big (like my doctor ordering 12 gift baskets just FULL of homemade goodies...) 
Everyone sounds soooo busy for the holidays! I have a full time 40 hour fairly hectic job that I can't quit right now and bake more or less as a hobby since I started at the first of 06. Maybe doing 4 or 5 cakes a month. The only cake I've done this month was for a charity silent auction. I've been fairly depressed as my husbands mother is dying of cancer and my mother is getting frailer by the day with Aleizhemers. I feel like I'm being pulled in so many different directions that I made a conscience decision to put off all orders until after some of this is resloved. I've had to turn down three orders this week and I want to just slip into my apron and forget all the stress and bake myself happy. I've really enjoyed looking at everyones cake photos in the gallery. Seeing them keeps me sane and in touch with the lighter side of life. Happy Baking to All! Pam from Bama

Cheer up my dear, remember, we look at the clouds which are dark and ominent, but from God's perspective (the top of the clouds) it's always sunny -- things will work out. You're doing well to take care of yourself!
