I'm a newbie to posting...so hopefully I'm doing this right.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a KA mixer for the last couple of months. Today I found one at Target that was clearanced down from $200 to $119. icon_eek.gif Of course I thought it was the deal of the year so I decided to pick it up. It's an Ultra Power Plus, has 300 watts and a 4.5 qt bowl. I love to bake but my handheld, 200 watt mixer has done the trick for many years so far (not the best...but it works). I guess what I'm asking is...should I keep the mixer and also, if I do keep it will I be happy with only 300 watts and a 4.5 bowl or should I get a bigger one?

Thanks for your advice. And by the way, I LOVE looking at all the beautiful cakes on CC and reading the forums. I have learned so many great tips on this site. I'm so glad I came across it!

Welcome to CC! icon_biggrin.gif

You are gonna fall madly in love with that baby once you flip the switch!
That puppy is worth every penny! I was reluctant too at first, but trust me, you'll wonder why you waited so long in the first place! icon_wink.gif

I got the 5 qt. Artisian and I love it! icon_biggrin.gif

I don't think you'll regret your KA purchase. That's the mixer I had for about 7 years and has done right by me. I recently got a 2nd KA mixer with a slightly larger bowl and I use both mixers with no problems.

Some day I will upgrade even further and get the Viking 7 quart mixer but that's out of my price range right now.

You'll love the Kitchen Aid mixer!! We use one at work and use it for everything!!!! It's a work horse and won't let you down.

My only suggestion is to get a couple of extra bowls and beaters.

With the money you're saving you could get some of that.

I don't think you will regret it. My first kitchen aid was a 300 watt. I now have the kitchen aid artisan 350 watt and I love it.

Hi, welcome to CC.

I LOVE my Kitchen Aide. I just do cakes for my friends and family and it works for what I need it to.

Should you get a bigger one? I guess that depends on how many cakes and batches of icing you do at once.

Good Luck and I'm sure you'll love yours once you use it.

Welcome to CC icon_biggrin.gif I am no expert on mixers but I love the KA. I have a 6 qt. 575 watt and love it. It will do anything I've tried. But a 4.5 qt. at that price is a good buy. I guess it depends on how much you want to mix at one time. Hope this helps some. And again welcome

Regret and KA don't belong in the same sentence! You will be SO happy together...I can assure you! I got mine 2 years ago ( a gorgeous eggplant purple I may add icon_biggrin.gif ) and we've never been happier together! I always wanted one, but never know how much I would really love it! It's strong, furable, and puts up with a lot from me! I do, like others here, suggest you get at least one extra mixing bowl...and maybe another beater.
Keep it, and ENJOY!!!

At that price if you decide you need a bigger mixer you can use the one you have for a second mixer if there's room in your kitchen or a back up put away in a closet in case the bigger one breaks. You got a steal.

I used a 4.5 quart for 7 years until it started breaking and upgraded to a 6 quart.

Thanks to everyone who gave input on whether or not I should keep the 300 watt KA. I was at another department store tonight and saw the exact same one for $269...and that was on sale. So now I'm feeling like I got a really good deal. Like my hubby says, if I ever make cake decorating into a business, then I can upgrade. But for now I think the smaller one will be fine. Thanks again.

Yes!! Keep your KA mixer! I love mine! I have a 325 watt/5 quart which I got a good deal on too. Regular price-$300 Sale price-$150 My husband surprised me with it because he knew I had wanted it for a while, but we never had $300 to buy one, so when I saw it for $150, I just had to have it because I knew I would probably never see that price again! I learned about the sale price right here on CC!! icon_smile.gif There was a forum a couple of months ago about it, saying that Lowe's had it on sale for $150. It was a mistake in their sale paper, but they still had to honor the ad! I was so happy when I got it. Enjoy your KA mixer! icon_smile.gif

Oh wow when I hear you guys talking about the prices of your KA I get really angry!! Only because here in Quebec they are soooo expensive!!I wanted one for a long time I finally got it as a graduation gift after finishing culinary school my yummy hubby got it for me. Mine is a 475 watts 5 quart professional stand, I love it would never buy anything else for use at home mind you, but it cost 500$ on special. They are usually 600 here and the pro 6 is 729.99 here so when I hear these prices you guys are talking about don't anyone of you complain my dears.. But again it's an awesome buy that I would highly recommend to anyone!!

Your post attracted my attention since I am looking for a KA myself - I am planning on adding a second KA to the family. You will love your KA and after a while you will want more than one for those times when you want to do icing and cake batter at the same time!

I couldn't do anything in my kitchen without my KA!!! I love it soooo much! My mom bought it for me off of QVC a few years ago. On another note, my husband bought me a Hobart at a garage sale for like $50.00. I am loving having two powerful mixers in my kitchen.

You will love it! I've got the 5 qt pro stand mixer. I bought it before I started decorating cakes. I needed a new mixer and it was such a good price I bought it. I thought I would just bake a few things every now and then and it would just sit. Little did I know I would enjoy baking and decorating so much. That KA makes it so much easier. It was well worth the investment. I've got my eye on that Viking 7 quart too. icon_smile.gif

As everyone else has stated, You will LOVE it! I got my KA before I even thought about decorating cakes and I'm a newbie at that. Could not imagine doing BC without it. I thought mine was a good deal at 190! Rock on, girlfriend!!

floophs I got the same one this summer and I love it. Of course I had my eye on the 475 watt 5 quart. Money talks- I found the 300 watt at a flea market unused for $100! The 475 watt is $400 at Cosco (here in Canada). Maybe if this become more than a hobby... Keep it, it is wonderful to be hands free!
