Does anyone know how to make a simple syrup? One without alcohol? I've seen a few but they all have brandy or something in them. I'm thinking of using it on a cake to help keep it moist, but children will be eating it and if there's even a hint of brandy flavor or anything like it some of their parents might freak out! lol icon_eek.gif

Thanks!

It's so easy.

You can take equal amounts of water and sugar. Bring it to a boil, and then let it cool. Brush it on the cake. You can use more or less water, but I find the equal amounts works well and is easy enough for me to remember.

Edit:
See Misska's recipe here. She's got some great ideas to spice it up too

WHEN I WORKED IN THE ICE CREAM SHOP, I MADE SIMPLE SYRUP. WHAT I DID WAS FILL A POT WITH WATER (PROBABLY A GALLON OF WATER) BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT FIT INTO THE JUG WHEN WE WERE DONE. THEN I ADDED 3 PINTS OF SUGAR TO IT AND LET IT SLOWLY BOIL FOR ABOUT 15 - 20 MINUTES. GET IT SO IT IS A ROLLING BOIL. LET IT COOL AWHILE BEFORE PUTTING INTO A PLASTIC CONTAINER. IF IT IS NOT COOL ENOUGH IT WILL MELT THE CONTAINER (TRUST ME I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE MAKE SURE IT IS GOOD AND COOL OR ELSE BIG MESS!) AND THEN STORE IT IN REFRIGERATOR. HOPEFULLY SOMEBODY ELSE ON HERE CAN CUT THE RECIPE DOWN FOR YOU. THAT IS HOW I MADE IT. GOOD LUCK!
