i looked at your cake, and NOT amateurish at all. extremely good as a matter of fact!!! the lady honestly has mental issues, what kind of adult behaves like she did? don't you love it when people say "whatever", then decide they don't like what you came up with. i'm sure she ate it, and part of me hopes she choked on it. i don't think this will ever happen again, but if it does, you can be prepared with your reaction (like scooping it up and throwing it in the trash and saying, well, we can't give this to your guests then can we?) that would throw her off guard, cause then she wouldn't have a cake!!!!! i'm just waiting for the day something like this happens to me, i'll probably react like you did, try to remember that she is a NUT

The only problem I see is not walking out with the cake. There's no way I would have left without that cake. Even if we were both covered in it by the time it was all said and done. icon_smile.gif

I just keep looking at the cake again and again. I just can't see what she found wrong with it! I think it's beautiful. I've never made a gp bow and I am so impressed. I think you did a beautiful job!

I would not do any business with her after this. I would also probably send her a bill. You made her a cake and she did take possession of it. She owes you for your services.

Don't let that bitty get you down! Some people you just can't please.

((((hugs)))))) to you!
Your cake was beautiful. I suck at buttercream cakes, and I wish I could make one like that!
When you said how it looked, I was expecting something horrible, but it was gorgeous! That woman is obviously unstable.
Don't let her get you down. I had someone say something nasty to me a couple of weeks ago, and it upset me so much that I even canceled some of my orders. But, I got back on my feet, and can see now she was just a psycho. Keep your chin up! You did great.
Glad you got out of there safely...Now I hope her husband sends you a check plus some for emotional distress....

Christie, don't even let her get the best of you. Her actions were completely unacceptable! It's amazing what some people do! But honestly, your cake is darling - and it looks delicious! Don't loose any sleep over this one! I wished you had picked that cake up and walked out with it!! Keep your chin up!! thumbs_up.gif

What a heffer!!!! I cannot believe she got all trashy like that with you. I think you did a great job considering it was last minute, and if she was so worried about having a cake she should have thought about it well in advance. There are people in this world who are just never happy. Think about it, if she was like that with you, imagine what her poor husband has to go through or even worst if she has children??? In the future, I would block her from your phone and NEVER take an order from her again. That is just ridiculous, and for your own sake, keep that cake on your profile, do not let her do that to you, it is your work, and you need to show it off, you did a fine job. Keep your head up, sincerely, Veronica

I think your cake came out adorable for the being on short notice!! I'm not saying this just to be nice, but you did an awesome job with it. It looks so delicious (don't mind me, I'm craving and chocolate is my best friend right now. LOL)
I even asked my Hubby and he said that it came out really nice!
Don't let people like that intimidate you or take advantage of you. That happened to me once and I froze just like you did and left without any money...

Again, I think you did awesome on the cake. I know it's tough when someone makes you feel like sh**, but just take this as a learning experience.
Good working hard and continue to do your really nice cakes.
Good Luck!! icon_smile.gif

Christy - head up girl - your cake is awesome! I agree with others, the only problem I see here is that you left your beautiful creation with a total biatch! It amazes me how people feel they have the right to talk to someone like this when they are receiving a "service"? What's gotten in to people? Someone else said that she probably had something very specific in mind, and when you didn't do what she wanted, she wouldn't have liked it anyway. Of course - this is in NO WAY your fault. If someone can't communicate what they want, what are you to do? If we were mind readers, we'd be working for the psychic network making a hell of a lot more money than we do now! I agree- send her a bill! And, don't take any orders from her, EVER again! Her husband was probably mortified by her behavior - I know I would have been! Hang in there! You are very talented, and deserve to have someone eat your beautiful creations that appreciates them!! Hugs from CO!

I know you were so shocked and hurt by the moment, but my anger would have gotten the best of me on this one. I would have told that b**** and her dumb*** DH that I was taking my s***** cake and going home; and then I probably would have eaten the whole thing myself!!

Hugs to you; don't give it another thought. Your work is great - it's the people that aren't.

I think we've established that you're dealing with a psycho. The cake is cute and I LOVE the bow-- that must have taken some time. I just hate that she got it for free--- you know that they ate it.

Is this someone that you knew through a mutual friend? How did she get your name? No more cake for her. Except maybe a sympathy cake for her husband who has to be around her daily.

I would have went home with my pretty little cake as well! I was asked to make a cake for my sister this past weekend and did. All I was told to make it Tiffany blue and I did that! This is the response I got. . .'Well, it's okay but isn't quite what I was thinking." WHAT?? I got no direction and made a cute cake. I have decided that I am no longer taking requests for free cakes but will bring one of my creative choice if I feel like it. Don't let this Bag-O-Air rent space in your head! Your cake was great!

Oh, Christi, you just seem to have more than your fair share of cruddy customers for someone who is so sweet with so much talent.
That cake is just beautiful, I would have been so proud and happy to serve that cake to anyone...let alone for an event that was apparently so unimportant to her that she didn't even order the cake until the last minute.
I totally understand you freezing in shock at her reaction...but she deserved to have that cake thrown at her and see if she liked it any better while dripping off her face.
Don't let all the nasties in the world get you down. I haven't talked a lot with you, but I do read a lot of your posts and you are a wonderfully sweet woman with A LOT of talent. Have faith, the day will come when you are appreciated.

I just wanted to note that I think it is very interesting that everyone says no more cake for that lady - I would have a hard time believeing that lady would have the nerve to call her again as she acted in such a crazy manner and didn't pay her! If I was the crazy bitch, I would not be able to bring myself to call her back, especially since this woman has been to my house - I do agree though that if for some reason this woman finds the Balls to call back, you should very kindly say to her, "I don't throw my pearls before swine thank you."

PLEASE tell me you had this woman sign a contract of some kind!!! If she didn't, then there's not a whole lot you can do icon_sad.gif . BUT if she did, if I were you I would send her a bill with a big fat red "PAST DUE" stamp on it! And if that doesn't work, by all means take her a** to Judge Judy!

If it makes you feel any better, I would have probably done the exact same thing you did at the time...I hate confrontations like that. It's something I'm working on icon_lol.gif .

And, like a lot of people have already said, NO MORE CAKE FOR HER. Ever. Period.

I agree with everyone who has posted so far. This woman is completely insane (and my F-I-L is a psychologist. I know crazies!) and should not be allowed the pleasure of anyone's hard work! I would have left with my cake and would never take another order from her. And yes, I think she would have the audacity to call for another order. People like this don't understand social etiquette enough to realize what a complete b***h she was.

By the way, I would never have done a cake that wonderful on short notice! You are amazing!

Christi- Walking away without the cake wasn't a mistake, under normal circumstances yes - no money, no cake. But it sounds like you ran into one of the wack jobs of this world. You were reacting on a gut instinct level- don't ignore that kind of signal. That's connected to the flight or fight response. You many not quite know what other signals you were picking up, but your survival instinct told you to get out of there. All we'd need is headline screaming 'Decorator hospitalized after fight over cake.'

Your cake is beautiful. The disaster in this situation is definately the lady that decided it was okay to act like a spoiled brat having a bad day. Not sure what her problem is, or why she acted like that, but even on my worst day I would never treat someone like that.

So sorry you had to deal with someone like that.
